Where do you dry your clothes?

As the weather is getting colder now (and wetter) less chance of drying clothes outside. In our house there's only myself and DH so have always been lucky we've had a spare room to dry clothes in on clothes maidens.

I'm aware that if we're successful at TTC our spare room will be given up for DC#1! So random as it is I've been wondering where to dry our clothes? I know this is so trivial but I'm just curious to know...we have quite a large landing space so I'm thinking there or we have a dining/kitchen room with space but I'm thinking of clothes smelling when cooking?

Pulley airer above the stairs. It's the warmest place in the house and a full load of washing dries on it easily (overnight in warmer months and in 12-24h at worst in colder months).

I love it. It keeps laundry out of the way and is miles better than having an airer cluttering up floorspace.

A ceiling rack dryer over the bath. I think it's ace. It takes a full washing load and mainly drys over night with larger items maybe taking 24 hours.

Tumble dryer or outside.

Why you'd want piles of wet clothes hanging mournfully around the house taking days to dry I don't know!

Can you tell I'm not a fan of indoor drying?

For those with ceiling racks above stairs don't you worry about the condensation/ damp air you are inhaling? Genuine question.

I dry (after spinning on full and 20 mins in the washer/ dryer on drying setting to take the edge off) on a clothes rack beside the window and I'm obsessed with ensuring the room is well ventilated so to prevent dampness. I've recently started hanging on hangers then popping on clothes rack and it's much quicker to put away Grin

Either on heated airer or normal airer, plus I have over door airer and sometimes use the rads. But have no outside space or tumble dryer.
Airers are folded and put away when not in use.

On a clothes horse. As long as it's not in the kitchen it wont smell of cooking

QueenPaws · 31/10/2020 01:02

Heated airer. No space for a tumble dryer and not allowed to dry outside unfortunately

One bedroom flat so no spare space, in the lounge on clothes horses for me or over the doors/hanging from door frames. Dehumidifier on constantly while washing is drying. I've got a tumble dryer in my garage as no space for it in the flat. I didn't use much as was worried about the cost, now I am worried about using it as the garage is damp and concerned it might burst into flames!

No condensation or damp air here, we leave all the bedroom doors open and open the windows so lots of fresh air, we also have hot air blow heating with a vent on the landing so that almost blow dries the washing.

HeronLanyon · 01/11/2020 10:32

Small flat here. Never use my tumble drier function - pointless as everything takes forever or have to have almost nothing in there and the cost is shocking.
Mixture of clothes horse in bath. Radiators. Hanging on my shower rail. May look like a ‘Chinese laundry’ at times but only once/twice a week.

We have a dehumidifier on the landing.

Giggorata · 01/11/2020 10:39

Outside whenever possible. We have a pulley maid above the wood burner in one room and we have a sort of boiler room/laundry with clothes lines.
I won't have a tumble drier any more, as I'm too green/tight.
We do have a dehumidifier as well, but the house is well aired, so don't often need to use it.

My house is incredibly dry. So the huge spiders say anyway (apparently they like dry houses).

I’ve had the ceiling airer 3.5 years and haven’t had any signs of condensation at all.
