Washing comes out smelling damp

This is driving me crazy! I’ve switched from Surf washing powder to Bold 2 in 1 liquid, I use branded condensed softener AND Unstoppables and my washing comes out smelling meh. I have cleaned under the rubber and recently did a maintenance wash. I used to have a 20 year old washing machine in my first property and the clothes came out smelling AMAZING. Help!! Why doesn’t my washing smell good ☹️

Same here. We have a drain which we can't cover which is somehow connected to the outlet pipe, and often get a drainy waft coming up when we start the machine. Not repairable without ripping out the kitchen apparently. It helps to get the washing out the minute it finishes.

use powder not liquid

"clean" your machine by washing some towels on a 90 degree wash

leave the door slightly ajar when empty if you can

90 degree wash with a drop of bleach in the drawer

Metherdick · 23/10/2020 21:42

We had this and it was to do with the water supply into the washing machine, it wasn't plumbed straight off the mains. Not enough water meant the detergent wasn't washed through properly.

Are you washing on quick or eco washes? Most new machines use far less water on certain settings which won’t rinse stuff properly if actually dirty. Plus if you have a 8kg wash, usually only the 3gr plus cotton cycles actually say they wash 8kg. The fast hr wash if you look is only for 2kg or similar.

If all those things your adding are liquid, it’s a lot of stuff that will build up a film of gunk if not washed long enough or at higher temperatures. Not 30 wash every tinne

Ditch the conditioner and unstoppable thingys. Use bio powder like Ariel, Persil or similar

Pikachubaby · 23/10/2020 21:44

How hot do you do your washes? Is the water getting heated up properly?

You need an occasional 60C wash (towels etc) to keep the drum free from bacteria/mould

30degree washes don’t cut it

Nutmegpapaya · 23/10/2020 21:58

Best tip I read on here was to run a really hot wash with 2 or 3 dishwasher tablets in the drum - worked a treat on mine.

I also switched from washing at 30 to washing at 60 and that helps soo much with it smelling better.

Since I did both of those everything smells really good coming out of the washer Smile

Do all of these ^^ And don't do quick or economy washes all the time.

When I switched to Ariel Bio from laundry liquid and eco eggs my washer stopped smelling and so did my washing.

WinWinnieTheWay · 23/10/2020 22:01

Bleach on a 90 wash should clear it.

grassgreenthisside · 23/10/2020 22:09

There is a review somewhere online that liquid does not work even 30% as effectively as powder. I will try to find it.

Clean your washing machine on 90' wash

Stick to powder, check the box and dose correctly

Don't use eco washes. Cycles should always be above 1hour
