Shark or Dyson - and which one?

TheCatsWhisker · 17/10/2020 17:00

Our old faithful Dyson has finally given up today 🤬

So we need a new hoover, we can't decide between another Dyson or a Shark.

We live in a really dusty area, lots of farmland around, and have 2 black cats which seem to be in a constant date of moulting.

Please can I ask for my fellow MNers recommendations for an upright hoover? (Can be another brand.)

Thanks Smile

we have recently replaced our dyson with a shark. We have a long haired dog and 3 long haired women in the house.. we get a LOT of hair/fur around!!

TBH, they're both as good as each other, but the shark is SO much lighter, easier to carry around, and less stress on my arthritic joints and knackered back to use... and easier to clean imho.

I started a similar thread sometime in March/April... but for dog hair. Ended up with the Shark DuoClean with Anti Hair Wrap and Pet Tool. Got it from Very, but I think Shark are offering it for £199 at the mo. I paid £329!! It’s truly amazing, I love using it

🦈 Shark. No contest.

DidgeDoolittle · 17/10/2020 17:07

Shark without a doubt

Shark is rubbish on wood floor but amazing in carpets

RealLifeHotWaterBottle · 17/10/2020 17:27

Shark! I went with a dyson and can honestly say I've regretted that decision ever since

TheCatsWhisker · 17/10/2020 17:42

Thanks everyone, I think the Shark wins. I also have really long hair which was always getting stuck in our hoover, so the anti wrap thing sounds great.

Dyson for sure. I've been using it for several years

YellowHighlighterPen · 17/10/2020 19:06

Dyson are great for getting replacement parts and keeping the machine going. Shark lose suction, the dust cup is tiny and I need to wash the filters every month or so to get half decent performance out of it. It's so much easier to use than a Dyson though and JD is an arsehole who's getting no more of my money.Wink

fantasmasgoria1 · 17/10/2020 19:08

Neighbour had a Dyson and replaced it with a shark. She has dogs and said the shark is miles better.

wondering7777 · 17/10/2020 19:46

I know Sharks generally come out top on MN, but I have a Dyson and I absolutely love it. It's so light to handle and I love the satisfaction of seeing all the dust and dirt that you've just sucked up accumulating in the drum Grin (though Sharks may do that too, I''m not sure).

I have a cat so need to vacuum regularly, and it honestly makes hoovering such a joy!

YeOldeTrout · 17/10/2020 19:52

We bought a Shark about a year ago having had Dysons for 10+ yrs before.

  • for Shark: lighter, very much quieter, more cleverly designed, better at getting under furniture, not owned by Brexit proponent (I care anyway)

  • for Dyson: much bigger capacity, better suction, more sturdy, longer power cord, longer hose

YeOldeTrout · 17/10/2020 19:53

oh, and the roller gets worse (much more quickly) clogged on the shark, but we still had to declog the Dyson roller regularly, too.

wondering7777 · 17/10/2020 20:15

(My Dyson is one of the cordless ones btw)

TheCatsWhisker · 17/10/2020 22:41

We ordered the Shark, so we'll see! Thanks all!

I've had 3 Miele cat and dog. Never again. Got a battery shark atm. But there are ICU patients out there that need less delicate care Hmm

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 17/10/2020 22:46
