Tips for laying lino

Bought an offcut of lino for £20 last weekend for our ensuite to replace rank carpet. dh is supposed to be laying it this weekend, so tips to minimise the cursing and achieve a neat finish please !

use the old carpet as a template to cut out the lino

Do we need underlay ? We did ask when we bought it and were told not necessary but the carpet has underlay and having second thoughts as it will otherwise be lying on chipboard.
