Cat Wee Soaked Into Floorboards

New house, and previous owner had cats that seemingly didn't bother with a litter tray. The stairs especially stink of urine. We've piled up the carpets and let it air but things are still really bad.

What can I use to remove it? Bicarb and vinegar is recommended online but is that really going to shift the scent of a cat toilet?

Thanks - I've tried these before on carpets with mixed results. Have you tried them on wooden floorboards before?

Or maybe try bio washing detergent. There's enzymes in them too. No i haven't tried on floorboards. I imagine you'd need to saturate the wood for it to work

Yes to enzyme cleaners. You can get one for hard floors, though I have always assumed it's the same stuff in a different bottle! We buy Simple Solution.

As above laundry detergent in warm water should also work well, though don't use too much as it's a pain to rinse off. You can use surgical spirit afterwards to get rid of any residue.

Alternatively, replacing the floorboards is much easier than it sounds. Not sure about on the stairs though.
