Any tumble dryer recommendations?

My wife is pregnant with number two and now hankering after a dryer. We've never had one, but recently moved and have room in the utility, and there is already a hole in the wall so I'm guessing a vented one is our best bet.

Any recommendations on brands/models/types/etc

Much appreciated!

Candy CSVV9LG_WH Vented Tumble Dryer in White

I have this , bought a year ago for £200 delivered. Nice big drum will tumble a full load (have 8kg washer) in an hour

Has sensor dry I tend to use mixed setting and can put in cottons and synthetics, very little shrinking

I love my Miele. It’s vented but I also have a non vented Miele in a holiday flat and that’s equally good. They are quick and quiet, the clothes are soft, dry and crease free and I’ve never had any problems with shrinkage. They are also reliable. In nearly 20 years of buying Miele products I’ve only had to call an engineer out once and that ended up being my fault ( I had allowed the detergent dispenser to become blocked up with a horrible slimy sludge of excess washing powder ).

Miele products are expensive but I buy the entry level models so not outrageously so and they last a long time so what you spend initially you more than save on not having to replace them every few years. My daughter currently has the one I bought 15 years ago and it’s still going strong.

My only bad Miele purchase was an upright vacuum cleaner that they no longer make that ended up at the dump. Everything else has been a great buy.

Not Beko! Learn from my mistake...

Bosch

Look at the Which recommendations (you can have a trial subscription) . They have Best Buys ranging from £1400 to £250 so how much you want to pay is a big factor. Also the reviews allow you to decide what matters to you. For instance noise might not be an issue if its in a utility room.

I'm on my second Bosch condenser dryer I love it first one lasted 15 years. Easy to use/clean and quite.

I have a candy 9kg, bought from Argos around 6 years ago.

It's has sensor dry, which I would recommend and also a non crease function so if you don't get to it as soon as it finishes it's turns the drum a few times every so often.

I can't make my mind up tbh, I took out a service plan which I have extended by the three years bout with Argos, think I pay around £3 per month and have had to have a call out pretty much every year. Mine was one of the last I think where they put the water collection box on the door I think this is the biggest issue.

I don't used mine pretty much April to October time. Still not got it switched back on making use of dry days and washing line because it does increase your electricity bill quite a bit.

Unless things have changed in the last couple of weeks you won't have the full choice!

We wanted a Bosch but couldn't get one anywhere.... all out of stock. There are supply problems that are effecting supply due to Covid I was told by a source in the industry.

Some brands more effected by others. We ended up with an AEG heat pump and it is v good.

We have a beko heat pump dryer and it is AMAZING. We bought it on AO and it's a bit more expensive than condenser or vented dryer but it uses barely any electricity at all so incredibly cheap to run. It takes a little longer to dry as it drys at a lower temperature but this means you can put pretty much anything in there without shrinking.

I can't tell you how happy I am with it, total game changer (god I'm old!)

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 28/09/2020 08:53

Another vote for candy. Mines a condenser dryer but it's fab. Sensor dry and anti crease function. It wasn't overly expensive either.

PaolaNeri · 28/09/2020 12:50

Agree with the heat pump dryer comments, I have a Bosch and it was well worth the extra money and I took the insurance to be on the safe side. Fits into a cupboard, energy rating highest saving.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 28/09/2020 12:53

Our Beko has been an absolute work horse! It was £200 and is still going strong after 8 years of heavy use.

Zandana123 · 28/09/2020 19:13

Interesting spread of responses, think you've covered all the bases 😀

Now I know not to buy a beko, but to buy a beko 😀

Interesting to hear about the supply issues affecting dryers.

I wonder what the pay back is on a heat pump vs a vented. Will have to do the sums!

Thanks all for your feedback!
