Dying sweatshirt with bleach splash

LucyLatimer · 22/09/2020 13:42

I have a cotton sweatshirt I really like and stupidly splashed it with bleach. If I use one of the dyson machine dyes. Will the bleach mark still show if I were to use deep violet or navy or should I just dye it black?

I would just dye it black although the Dylon dyes are very good so another colour should work

Dylon is good but will only dye the cotton, if any part of the garment is man made it won't dye. You can get stuff to pre treat the item you are dying to strip out it's original colour. My bleach marks didn't show but the thread (in a towel with bleach mark) came out white as i hadnt realised the border of the towel had nylon thread.

Depends what the original colour is.
Dyeing something black will usually not dye the stitching.
I think that the instructions say that it won't necessarily dye bleached areas.

Ok know to great expense and sadness that those machine dyes don’t cover bleach marks, regardless of colour.

Dye black and use laundry marker on the bleached bit

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 28/09/2020 12:16

I've done this before and unfortunately the bleached area kind of disintegrated after being dyed. It's worth a try, but this might happen. Depends on the fabric.

spray more bleach on it and make a feature of it.

Like this...think of the savings!

I have some clothes that look a bit like that Laurie. The contrast colour is from a paint called Never Again Once.
