Are washer/dryers any good?

I'm hopefully moving house soon and there may only be space for a washer/dryer combined rather than separate as I have now. It's only me and my 19yo son but we (he...) generate a fair amount of washing. Are there any washer/dryers which are decent or should I make space for separate appliances?

No. Our washer dryer keeps breaking. Under warranty and has practically every part replaced but still floods the floor completely.

Oh and the drying function is also next to useless - after 2 hour drying, clothes and bedsheets still come out the machine and need hanging for half a day to dry before they can be worn or put away.

Don't get an LG.

We have a Bosch, the most expensive one. Very quiet. Previously had a cheaper Indesit and it was useless (and loud!). The Bosch dries things like towels, socks, trousers fine. I still hang sheets and shirts to avoid wrinkles, though.

Bosch (and Siemens) usually come with 3-year warranties and you can book the repair online which is handy. You can also upgrade to 5 years for an extra £89.

We inherited one with a previous property and it was fine at washing but utterly useless at drying. Took hours and hours just to dry a third of a load. Truly useless. It was an AEG.

Then we inherited another with our next property. A hotpoint. Again, utterly useless at drying but fine at washing.

When we moved into this property, we bought separates and they’ve both been great. Ten years on and they’re still going well. If you only have space for one, I would buy a really good washing machine and a Lakeland heated airer and a cover for it.

they are ok if you know their limitations.
they can only dry half a load and usually take quite a long time. the dryer part also needs s lot of electricity, something to consider.

we decided against one as we have space for a large drying rack anf s line in thr attic.
large drum washer with a fast spin works for us.

Thanks for all the replies - looks like if I am limited on space a Bosch would be good to consider - but I'd also look at a heated airer. Having got behind on washing this week it would be a real bind not to be able to dry at the same time - but then it all depends on the space and the plumbing!

you will need an aired anyway.
for those things that can't be tumble dried and for the half load that waits for it's turn to be dried.
