For how long and at what temp do you wash your clothes?

My washing machines standard setting is 30 for about 28 minutes.

Is this long enough to actually get the clothes clean? Should I be upping the temp/putting it on for longer?

Usual setting is 52 mins on 30 degrees. I also have a 20 min 3kg max setting which is handy for the odd bit of missing uniform!

I think it's fine for a standard wash. I always wash towels/bedding on a higher heat, or if someone is unwell

Bingowin · 14/09/2020 16:58

We use the daily/quick wash which takes 1 hour at 40 degrees.

We do bedding/towels at 60 degrees which takes the same amount of time (we can adjust temp).

The Eco cottons cycle takes about 3+ hours so can't be doing with that!

keekss · 14/09/2020 16:59

I have another setting, Mixed Fabrics which takes 2 hours Shock which is really long and it would take ages to clear my wash basket using that setting

Big load is 40• for 2 hours. Small loads I do 40• for 1 hour. Bedding/towels/work clothes I do 60• for 2 hours

cheeseychovolate · 14/09/2020 17:00

40 one hour
30 59 min
60 one hour 6 min
30 quick wash 15 min

bigknickersbigknockers · 14/09/2020 17:01

1 hour at 40 degrees, i find the quick was isn't as effective so stick with this setting.

ZarasHouse · 14/09/2020 17:28

50 mins on 40. Have tried to do 30ish mins on 30 but they don't come out clean.

dementedpixie · 14/09/2020 17:31

Your 28 minute wash is likely to be for a very small load of clothes so it will use much less water and may not clean everything properly. I do a 40⁰C wash in about 1h 24mins on a daily wash setting. If I choose the cotton cycle its about 2hrs for a wash. The cotton cycle is the only one that takes a full 9kg load so I use it for towels/jeans etc

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/09/2020 17:32

40 degrees on a wash that takes roughly 2 hours. My big white cotton sloggis go in with the white bedding (but never tea towels Wink ) at 60. Towels and tea towels separately at 60.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/09/2020 17:33

1h cycle at 30°

Truzza · 14/09/2020 17:46

Ours Bosch takes absolutely forever! 2 hours for a mixed wash 3 for a white wash
Bloody thing makes a right racket for hours!
Quick wash is 24 minutes and does nothing

Smallsteps88 · 14/09/2020 17:47

Oh Lordy! You’ve done it now OP! Grin

mommybear1 · 14/09/2020 17:58

Usually machines have a quick wash function or speed perfect - so a long wash of 2 hours can be cut by pressing this button. On mine a 40 degree wash takes 2 hours I use the speed perfect button and it reduces it to 50 mins. I'd have a look and see if you can select time saving options to reduce the longer cycle washes OP.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 14/09/2020 18:00

My machines daily wash setting is 59 mins. If I remember I put the temp down to 40 but often forget so wash on 60.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/09/2020 18:25

All machines in the UK are cold fill now and the water has to be heated up. I always think the short cycles are never going to get that warm for that long so you might as well do it all on cold if you're happy with a 30 or 40 minute wash.

theneverendinglaundry · 14/09/2020 18:55

Mixed load cycle at 30 degrees with the eco setting on, 1 hr 9 mins.

lifesalongsong · 14/09/2020 19:08

I can see I must be an outlier, I wash things according to the washing instructions/fabric and the machine programme decides how long it takes.

Are you all bunging everything in together?

Modern energy efficient machines take longer to be eco friendly and cheaper.

dementedpixie · 14/09/2020 19:14

I wash things by colour. Most things washed at 40⁰C with the odd 60⁰C for towels/bedding

hiredandsqueak · 14/09/2020 19:17

1 hour wash at 40 degrees for most things. Bedding and towels 1 hour wash at 60 degrees. Very occasionally use the 30 minute wash at 30 degrees to freshen something up.

Fatted · 14/09/2020 19:17

If I'm home, the clothes go on at 40 and it takes about 90 minutes. Towels and bedding go on at 60, again for 90 minutes.

If I'm out for the day it's a 3 hour eco wash!

Anything less than an hour or less than 40 degrees doesn't clean my clothes IMO.

keekss · 14/09/2020 19:19

@Fatted 3 hours Shock

OP posts:
Popcornismandatory · 14/09/2020 19:20

1 hour and 11 minutes 60 degrees

keekss · 14/09/2020 19:20

I'm going to stick with the 1 hour wash at 40, does the job well. Definitely think the daily quick wash wasn't effective because it's so short

OP posts:
TheSmallAssassin · 14/09/2020 19:22

If it looks clean and smells clean then job's a good'un, no?

RunningFromInsanity · 14/09/2020 19:23

Mostly 60degrees which takes 2hours

Quick wash option is 30degree which takes 45mins
