Can I re-lacquer a lacquered oak table?

Getting a bit ahead of myself as it doesn't get delivered until next week but it is going to take a pasting - not literally, would have got a pasting table were that the case.

Wanted something untreated I could sand and oil but we loved it - the Radius from Habitat. Am I mad with 2 kids and we are clumsy and a bit rubbish as well? Don't want it to live under a table cloth.... What is the day to day reality of this decision?

I would have it done professionally if it really gets bad. It is very difficult to get the lack on smoothly with no smears or drips.

Lovely table by the way, we have one similar but ours is just oiled.

I put use big place mats where the children sit for every day.

Sometimes I use three runners across the table, that way you can still see the wood but it is a bit protected.

Thanks Kinder, that sounds a nice compromise with the runners so it can show a bit of leg and top.

Anyone had a table re-lacquered and can give me an idea how much this would cost?

Just wanted to update and say this table is a fantastic table. Reccommend completely. Don't worry about it spoiling at all.
