Clothes moths!

If you have won the battle against moths permanently tell me how!

Over the last several years I’ve tried everything moth smoke bombs, spray, clothes protectors, boil washing/dry cleaning, glue traps, daily hoovering, only freshly laundered clothes go in wardrobes and drawers. No animals to drop hair, only have carpet (it is wool!) on the stairs, albeit even after several years no sign of them homing in on it. They tend to be more prevalent in spare bedroom and in my wardrobe (literally last year they had no shame and would casually be walking up the arm of my clothes every time I opened the door -resolves with smoke bomb but next season they are back! as they have a fancy for my clothes, and less so other family members stuff.

Have never been able to identify a single source of the problem, and find it hard to believe there is one in our case based on the fore mentioned. I don’t have anything wool, and will not buy anything Wool, silk etc due to moths.

Would consider changing the carpet to man made if it would guarantee success. Bought the carpet when we moved in and it was an expensive one and fear that If I do so It won’t make a difference and we still will have the problem as nothing has made a sustained difference to date and they are not problematic in the stairs area.

I’ve been obsessed about them at various points. To being more casual about it but I have had enough of living with them and want them gone permanently, not just till the next breeding cycle starts.

I’m fed up of their larvae chewing my cotton items even when they are spotlessly clean from a boil wash, and in some cases new!

Thanks for the update 👍

Our numbers have also dropped to almost none, but I think it's seasonal rather than what we've done.

I've lapsed with obsessive vacuuming, but plan to do a thorough clean upstairs next week.

Ours have disappeared too but I'm worried the next generation is wriggling around somewhere hidden waiting to surprise me.

A bit of an update ....

since using the parasitic wasp we have not seen any in several weeks. I know it’s not the height of their season but as we tend to keep our house on the toastier side during the winter months we would normally still get them, just fewer in number. Also, have been having a major declutter, changed much of the bedroom furniture - and this must have helped. But the reduction in numbers more coincide with the use of the wasp, as we did not change the furniture in every room.

I don’t want to give the moths any chance, so as a pre-caution will embark on another 8 week cycle of the parasitic wasp soon, and fingers crossed as we work our way towards spring when typically we would ordinarily see them much more so.

Will provide a further update as we get into spring.

No parasitic wasps here but no moths either. We also like a warm house, but I still think they are sleeping rather than dead.

Going to thoroughly clean and vacuum every room over January ready for them to start hatching in spring. It would be lovely if I'd really got rid of them, but I'm sure they'll get the better of me and start up again.

I had a chronic infestation in one of our houses and it took two years and completely new carpet to get rid of them! The trouble is if you miss two it starts again as they hatched. I used sticky moth papers and spray all the time. Changed the carpets and eventually they were all gone. It used to make my skin crawl

A bit of an update in case it’s helpful to others. Have had no more than several moths so far this year. When I had seen a couple over a few days, we purchased some more parasitic wasp and so far not seen another moth since. So far the parasitic wasps seem to be making a difference, fingers crossed this is the beginning of the end of them at our house.
