Small wood shavings in wooden drawer

what insect(s) cause tiny wood curls/shavings?

I opened some wooden drawers that have not been opened for years and the underside of the top had some small scratches, and it was evident this had been caused by an insect as there was several tiny wood shavings within the drawer. No evidence of holes or anything living, just the scratches within the varnish layer and the wood shavings.

Not been able to identify the cause as most wood eating insects seem to create sawdust instead of the small wood shavings.

I have given it a thorough hoover and sprayed it - in the hope that will resolve the issue.

Wondered if it could be moth and/or larvae related?

Any clues would be appreciated.

Mice?

Really don’t think it’s mice. Get a sense it’s insect related and not a rodent. It’s a bedroom drawer that’s pretty much empty. Hence why is not been open in so long.

Also, no signs of droppings.

If you can see a small wood plane in the drawer, perhaps also a tiny pot of glue and some white overalls it will probably be a carpenter beetle! Smile
