Some time ago I bought a king size duvet set in linen, It wasn't cheap, I have washed it several times now, with loads of conditioner, and it is still not soft enough to sleep in, how do I make it softer ?

I don't use fabric conditioner, but for anything linen, I line dry or tumble dry until just damp, then steam iron and hang folded until dry.

I don't know the answer, but I could have posted the same question. I don't seem to have this problem with linen trousers or dresses.

Bicarbonate of sofa in the wash and vinegar in the final rinse. No fabric conditioner. And time. Every wash will work on the reed a bit more.

Tumble drying makes linen much softer. If I line dry mine it is always a bit crispy.

Use literally half the amount of detergent you'd usually use, along with bicarbonate of soda in the detergent drawer and a big slosh of distilled vinegar in the softener drawer. Don't add any fabric softener. You can dry on the washing line, but when nearly dry put in the tumble dryer on a low heat.

Vinegar and tumble dryer are my friends!

No fabric conditioner and tumble dry them works for me.

Lots of people like crisp linen. I would have thought that would be achieved by ironing so I’m surprised to see it suggested here as a way to soften it. I’ll try one day.

I never use fabric conditioner. Time and use for linen, it will soften.
