Advice on removing a very ingrained smoke smell from clothes?

Hello, sadly I am dealing with a relative's estate at the moment and she had mountains of clothes. She was also a heavy smoker, and the whole house smells of this - so all the clothes do too obviously. A very hot wash, bio tabs and even a pre-soak in vinegar hasn't worked on my sample selection of clothes.
I don't think I could give them to charity unless I can get rid of the smell. There are so many it would be such a waste.
I thought if anyone would have suggestions, I'd find them on here!
Thanks Smile

Quite honestly, unless their wardrobe was splendid and expensive I would be inclined just to take everything to the tip. It will probably take more resources to try and clean and dry the clothes than it is worth.

Agree with the above comment.... I wouldn’t waste the resources on them unless you’re talking designer/heritage items.

Sadly that smell never leaves. I got my vehicle at a year old and it was previously a company vehicle and had been smoked in. I have had it 9 years and even now, if the seats get damp for any reason, valeting or rain etc, the next day we still get a waft of old smoke smell. NastyEnvy

Given what you've already tried I agree with pp's.

The smell is likely to be totally engrained within the fibres and I'm not sure what you can do beyond what you've already tried.

Smoke smell does wash out (as I'm sure most of us can remember after a night in a pub pre-ban) when they are "on the surface" but not if fabrics are continually exposed to it (not just by the smoker wearing them but being in a house contaminated with the smell).

There's another recent thread about a house with smoke contamination btw that you might find of interest. I'll try and find it....

AIBU to consider buying a house from smokers? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4002697-aibu-to-consider-buying-a-house-from-smokers

Oh wow. You're probably right, I just hoped there was a magic potion as there are literally hundreds of items, many never worn, but definitely not all particularly expensive (some are).
I must say I didn't notice a smell when they were being worn Confused but in the house it is intense.
Thanks very much. I will read the linked thread too Flowers

It's really difficult. Once DS left his jacket at his nanny's house for a couple weeks before he seen them again. They smoke heavily. I literally washed it ten times with all sorts - bio washing powder, vinegar, Zoflora, vanish, dettol laundry cleaner. The smell did not want to budge. Vile really as it's not like the coat had been there long. I don't think smokers notice it. So yeah I wouldn't waste your tome trying unless you feel like you absolutely should!
