Recommended a tumble dryer.

I've finally conceded that I need a tumble dryer, but there are too many to choose from. It needs to be condensing and probably have a sensor ? Budget up to around £250.

A couple of things to think about.

An ordinary tumble dryer needs venting - which usually isn't great unless you put a new vent through the wall you will need a door or window open to put the vent through.

The next type is a condensing one. These are better as they collect the water - or it goes straight to a drain if you can plumb it into one. The downside is the room it is in gets very hot.

The third type is a heat pump dryer. These reuse the heat from the water. More expensive initially but cheaper to run (about half the price per load) and better for the environment as the heat is recycled. Again, ideally the water goes straight to a drain but there is a tank that it goes to if there isn't a drain available - you just have to remember to empty it after every use. Another benefit is that this water is condensed so can be used in your iron (and is good for cleaning windows). They do take a bit longer though as they are recycling the heat and they don't get as hot which is better for the clothes.

Mine is a Beko, similar to this one and I love it

but it was a couple of years ago, I shopped around and got it for around £250

After years of having a condenser we’ve just ordered a heat pump one. I really wanted to be as eco friendly as possible as living in highland Scotland with school uniforms and work uniforms to dry means it’s on a lot!

We found an A++ rated, 9kg one for £350 ish. A bit more than we’ve spent in the past but I won’t feel so guilty about using it

Does it definitely, 100 % HAVE to be condenser? I actually had a vent hole cut out of my wall so I could go back to a vented dryer on the new house. Maybe it was the brand or the model but I didn't like a condenser very much so I bought a vented and put the pipe out of the window when using it. Not practical but I still preferred it. The condenser made the air feel a bit damp and warm and I was always forgetting to empty it.
If you can go vented I highly recommend the Beko DRVS73W. The last same model one lasted over 10 years and after the condenser I went straight back to the DRVS73W.

Can't have a vented one as we rent, so no cutting holes in walls, and while we can possibly use a window now, we never know when we might have to move and not be able to do this.

I recently got a beko 9kg sensor condenser tumble dryer (my previous hoover one broke). I honestly couldn't recommend it enough and I think it was only £220 from curry's. My brother in law has the same one but smaller drum and they love it too. I just prefer the larger drum because I was told that it dries a load quicker. Don't know if that's accurate though lol x
