What do I do with all the delivery boxes?

2011mummy29 · 18/08/2020 13:59

My house is becoming overrun with ridiculous amounts of amazon etc delivery boxes, bubble wrap and that brown paper they wrap things in. I honestly don’t know what to do with, my house is cluttered enough already, and it feels like an endless battle trying to even make enough space to live comfortably.
I called amazon and complained when they delivered yet another box which was nearly as long as my sofa, but they said I couldn’t return it unless I took it 3 miles to the depot to return. I don’t have a car at the moment so couldn’t easily do that.
Does anyone have similar issues or is this just me? Any tips or advice would be appreciated. It sounds stupid, but I have bpd and anxiety, and struggle with organisation as it is. Thanks

Blue bin?

AriettyHomily · 18/08/2020 14:02

Do you not a recycling option?

ClamDango · 18/08/2020 14:03

there are always people looking for packing boxes, boxes to make into cat houses, use as underlay on our local fb kindness group, maybe have a look there.

picklemewalnuts · 18/08/2020 14:05

Offer boxes on Facebook- people moving house and ebay sellers need them, also people making raised garden beds.
Compost them.
Decorate them and use for storage.
Put them in the recycling.

Marpan · 18/08/2020 14:05

My husband bought a
Camper van and puts our rubbish in that.

growinggreyer · 18/08/2020 14:09

It has no value, it is rubbish. Put it out for recycling or if your area doesn't do that it should go into your bin.

MaggieFS · 18/08/2020 14:11

Offer it for free on Facebook or put it out for recycling?

minnieok · 18/08/2020 14:12

Recycle them

Aragog · 18/08/2020 14:14

We just put it in for recycling.
Or sometimes if they are decent enough, to my school for the junk modelling.

ScrapThatThen · 18/08/2020 14:16

It's a byproduct of shopping online. It's not unreasonable to challenge their practices, but they are not likely to change overnight. We just flatten and put in the cardboard and paper recycling bag/boc. We can recycle soft plastics locally too.

Prettybluepigeons · 18/08/2020 14:16

In the recycling bin!

premiumshoes · 18/08/2020 14:16

I put them in the recycling.

Why did you call amazon to complain? Surely they are delivering things because you have ordered them?

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 18/08/2020 14:17

Stick it in your local FB group for free - someone will almost certainly want it. Anything that's left - recycle.

Why have you been trying to fit these things into your house? Do you normally find it difficult to get rid of things that have no use to you?

lilylion · 18/08/2020 14:18

Why aren’t you recycling them?!

5lilducks · 18/08/2020 14:19

We recycle ours. The recycle bin is sometimes too small to hold all the cardboard so we put it in the shed and then move them along after each collection.

Devlesko · 18/08/2020 14:19

break them down and put in blue bin?
Store in loft for when you need a box? We always chuck ours then need one. So we keep a few up there now, in case.

2011mummy29 · 18/08/2020 14:19

Thanks for the replies, I guess it’s obvious to just put them out for recycling. They don’t fit in the bin hopefully they’ll accept them if I put them out anyway, but will put a post up offering them for free too. Don’t know about all the bubble wrap, I’ll leave it out for recycling and hope for the best. Thanks for the help, I feel a bit silly now, just was getting too much.

Break them up.

babblingbumblingbandofbaboons · 18/08/2020 14:21

Break then down into flat packs as soon as you’ve opened them and stored the contents away where they need to go. Then your options are either put them into your recycling bin, store them somewhere dry till you can get them to the tip for recycling if you don’t have an individual bin, or store them somewhere dry and offer them for free on Facebook / gumtree etc for anyone that needs them to collect. By having them flattened they’ll fit much more easily into a cupboard or shed or somewhere if you do need to store them. Worst case if you have nowhere to keep them at all, flattened and stored outside down the side of your bin till you can dispose is your last option.

babblingbumblingbandofbaboons · 18/08/2020 14:22

If they don’t fit in the bin, flatten them then fold them (you might need to stand on them to get them folded).

Bubble wrap can go in plastic recycling, and the paper they pack boxes with can go in with the cardboard.

2011mummy29 · 18/08/2020 14:24

I complained because I ordered a small item, and it came in a box which was roughly the size of me. It was the third one that week, and I called them to return the item and complain about package size. Then was was told they wouldn’t collect it and I’d have to take it somewhere which I physically couldn’t do. I guess it was an overreaction on my part, but my recycle bin is full and I have no loft or anywhere to put all this stuff.

Thanks everyone appreciate it

If you check on your local authority waste collection page you may be lucky.
We can have as many recycling bins as we need and they are happy to collect bundles of card or paper tied up and left beside the bin.

2011mummy29 · 18/08/2020 14:30

Also, here we have one recycle bin and one black waste bin, they get emptied alternately every 2 weeks, but have had a lot more waste with everyone being at home lately.

How many people are in your family? You may be able to get more bins.
