Used tea towels and dish cloths

AlexaShutUp · 17/08/2020 22:55

We change our tea towels pretty often, same for dish cloths (don't actually use them for dishes, more for wiping kitchen surfaces etc). I like to wash them on a hot wash, separately from other stuff, so I usually wait to build up a few used ones before sticking them in the machine. My problem is what to do with the used ones while they are waiting to be washed. Can anyone tell me what they do, please?

I stick them in reusable waterproof bags like you use for reusable nappies. Definitely not longer than a couple of days though!

AlexaShutUp · 17/08/2020 23:09

Thanks cute. I could try that but don't really have anywhere obvious to keep the bag! It's a small problem but actually drives me mad!

I drape them near the machine, a bit yucky really but hate them mouldering

PiratePetespajamas · 17/08/2020 23:19

Have been draping them Over the door (yuck). Have just bought a brabantia recycling bin that you can mount on the wall. Game changer! Stupid expensive but looks nice, has a handle and can be toted around the house like a bucket (I use it for other cleaning cloths too), things can be pre-soaked in there if necessary, and keeps it all hidden away. Recommend!

Serenschintte · 17/08/2020 23:20

Maybe you could use a nappy bucket? They usually have a a lid. Or a compost bucket - smaller and also has a lid.

AlwaysLatte · 17/08/2020 23:22

I usually dry them outside first then put them into the towels/t towels section in the laundry so they all get washed on hot, no conditioner.

TigerDroveAgain · 17/08/2020 23:22

Just stick them in your usual wash of everything else like we all do ?

Brunilde · 17/08/2020 23:24

We have a small plastic bucket with lid we keep them all in.

Kerryboo22 · 17/08/2020 23:24

You need to get away from that abuser, next time might be different.get out while your safe please.

thinkofausername · 17/08/2020 23:25

I have a bin under the sink which I put them in. We get through at least 3 tea towels a day.

Chocolatepeanuts · 17/08/2020 23:26

I put mine on the radiator in the utility to dry, once dry i theow in the wask basket with the rest of the washing. Cant stand when DH throws it in wet and and ive mildew everywhere when i empty basket!

Cynderella · 17/08/2020 23:48

Hang them over kitchen stair gate until dry and them chuck on stairs to go up to laundry bag,

In winter, put them on scullery radiator until dry and then up to washing bag,

PickAChew · 17/08/2020 23:54

I just dry them on the oven door handle or towel rail and then chuck them in the basket. I wash all towels together at 60 with powder and already have more than enough laundry to do without washing tea towels separately.

Cynderella · 18/08/2020 00:04

Yes - oven door too,

Thecobwebsarewinning · 18/08/2020 08:23

I don’t use many tea towels because I use the dishwasher (I like to think of myself as more Joan Jetson than Wilma Flintstone!) but I get through 2 or three microfibre cleaning cloths and mop heads a day. They get thrown from the kitchen into a small plastic mesh basket on the utility room floor near the washing machine. Every week or so they get washed in their own with a big splash of zoflora added to the final rinse.

BillywilliamV · 18/08/2020 08:31

Dry them in utility room or outside, chuck them in the laundry basket when dry.My micro fibre clothes are at least five years old and no sign of them wearing out. Very greenBear

Cloths go in my normal wash. I fling them in the machine and that works fine, as I do a wash load pretty much every day.

WithIcePlease · 18/08/2020 08:42

Mine go into any wash I have on the go

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 18/08/2020 08:46

I dry mine in the utility to stop molding then throw them in a basket till theres enough to make up a wash.

Same, except I have a bucket in the utility room rather than a basket.
chromis · 18/08/2020 08:59

I put the teatowels/cleaning towels in one container (a kitchen bin with no lid) and the cloths in another (small swing bin with a lid). In the utility. If I had a wet towel I'd drape it over the edge of the towel bin until it was dry and then put in with towels. I wash 60oC once a week . I wash clothes on 30/40 but like the cleaning stuff done at 60oC. Have pets so extra cleaning so have a load once a week.

Devlesko · 18/08/2020 16:01

Mine go in with everything else and line dry.
Could go in with towels, bedding, bathroom mat.

Alderaan · 18/08/2020 16:10

Am I missing something? Why would you wash them separately to everything else?

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 18/08/2020 16:29

@Kerryboo22 I think you might have posted on the wrong thread!

Apart from the microplastics they shed. They're not very green.
