Dull Laminate Floor problem

Hello everyone, could anyone advise me, please, on how to brighten up a dull looking laminate floor?

We recently moved to a bungalow and it has laminate floors throughout (except kitchen and bathroom). I am only used to carpets and have no experience in this type of floor. I do, however, seem to remember that you shouldn't get it wet, so I'm at loss.

All advice gratefully received {smile}

Thanks!

I mop mine with very hot water (kettle of boiling water added to the bucket) and a very well wrung out mop. I then throw an old towel down and shuffle it around or else it dries with streaks. Never had any problems.

If it’s dull it might be because it’s covered in loads of little scratches or it might be a build up of cleaning product. If it’s the first you could try polishing it with furniture polish - if possible buy or rent an electric buffer (or borrow mine) to save time and get the best possible finish. However be careful because polished laminate can be VERY slippery.

If it’s a build up of product you will need to find something that will dissolve it. Normally a steamer would be good but obviously not on laminate. Maybe try a little diluted rubbing alcohol on an inconspicuous corner and see if that works without damaging the laminate.

Thank you both.

I will try the hot water and mop method first before turning to the rubbing alcohol.

I sweep or hoover when necessary and there is definitely no build-up of cleaning product - not since I've been here anyway Wink
