Oil on drive

Annoyingly our neighbours had a skip collected and the skip truck parked on our drive. There is now a patch of oil from where the truck must have had a leak.

If we just leave this will it disappear or do we need to remove?

How long does it take for the oil to dry so that I don’t have to worry about the kids treading on it?

Call the skip company to come clear it up as much as is possible.

Is there a puddle or just a few drips? If there's a puddle it can dissolve tarmac drives. On concrete/brick it's just ugly but not damaging. Either way, the skip co should have insurance to cover rectification.

If you can't be arsed with that hassle because it's not that bad, still take pics before you start using cardboard to mop it up and then fairy liquid and a stiff brush.

Tiredmumno1 · 16/08/2020 12:47

Tiny bit of fairy liquid, little bit of a scrub and then blast it with a pressure washer, or de greaser.

halfords

@TheHighestSardine thanks, on our drive we have tarmac and then a line of bricks before the pavement and it is on the bricks that it has spilt. It is not that large about the size of two tennis balls it’s just so annoying.

I didn’t think about contacting the company as I don’t know how to prove it was them.

I have heard that you can put cat litter on an oil spill to absorb it. No idea how well this works though.

Tiredmumno1 · 16/08/2020 12:52

The link I put up isn't for use with tarmac, so if you have a look at some of the other products you may find something.

Tiredmumno1 · 16/08/2020 12:58

I've found a web page that gives ideas and how to do it here hopefully that helps a bit more Smile

pinky987 · 16/08/2020 13:02

@Tiredmumno1 thanks I’ll have a look at the different options

You're welcome, I hope you manage to get it off.

pinky987 · 16/08/2020 13:16

Thanks it’s just so annoying as when RS a new drive only put in last year and it wouldn’t be so bad if we’d had the skip

It does sound annoying, you could try and approach the company and ask them to sort it, however they may deny it, or take ages to rectify it. Considering it's not your fault and now you need to sort it, i totally understand the annoyance.

Costco own brand washing powder has instructions on how to use it for oil stains.
