Lakeland heated airers

I am looking at the Heated airers from Lakeland, are they worth it? At the moment they have bundles, so I could get a cover also, what do you think?

They're ok. You need a cover, or a large fitted sheet over the top. They dry stuff in a couple of hours, but since the warmer weather I've gone back to using my clothes horse instead of the heated airer.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 13/08/2020 12:27

I love mine, had them for years now. You do need to throw something over it such as a sheet to get it all dried overnight if it’s full, but it’s fab, honestly.

pinkbalconyrailing · 13/08/2020 12:28

they are great if you have a cold drafty space.
we used to have one in the previous place in the unheated porch/conservatory.

now we use it in the attic, but it's never switched on.

What everyone else says - I gave mine to my daughter who doesn't have room for a tumble drier. She's washing for two, and finds it really efficient. When I was washing for seven, I used it in addition to tumble drier because it couldn't keep up.

I also found it useful when ironing because it aired slightly damp stuff really quickly.

Dreamersandwishers · 13/08/2020 13:31

I bought one when my tumble drier broke and there was a delay in getting it fixed.
Since then I have used it during wet spells or after holidays to speed up the laundry process.
It’s fine, does a job, is allegedly cheaper to run, but i can’t get excited about it. I bought it as a bundle, but what mine doesn’t have is any kind of timer or auto off., and I think that’s a flaw.

AriettyHomily · 13/08/2020 13:34

I don't get the love. Haven't used mine for a couple of years.

Mayvis · 13/08/2020 13:36

Mine is essential in the winter as we have no tumble dryer. One of the few things I would instantly replace if it broke.

0hforfoxsake · 13/08/2020 13:38

I don’t get it either. I just don’t get on with it.

Dries the bits that touch the bars.
Leaves laundry with that damp musty smell.
Takes days.
Would be as cheap to do 30 mins in the dryer as 3 days on the rack.
I’ve been in to Lakeland, asked them, changed it for another one as they suspected it wasn’t getting hot enough. But no, not for me.
I find a dehumidifier more useful.

endofthelinefinally · 13/08/2020 13:45

I love mine, I have had it for 15 years. I use hangers to hang things between the bars and put smaller garments over the bars. It takes 2 loads of washing. I through a table cloth over it and secure with pegs.
Dries the lot in 2 or 3 hours.

Cynderella · 13/08/2020 14:11

I found things like tea towels dried in a couple of hours. Jeans would take all day. I think if it was taking days @ohforfoxsake you must have a faulty drier.

magicmallow · 13/08/2020 14:12

overrated IMO.

Shieldingending · 13/08/2020 14:26

I like mine, as others have said you do need to cover that comes with it and it’s obviously a lot slower than the tumble dryer. However for the majority of things it dries them overnight

ifoundafoxcaughtbydogs · 13/08/2020 14:35

Loads of people love them but I just didn't get it. Heat rises so I still had damp washing with dry stripes on the small area that had touched the bars.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 13/08/2020 14:45

I have the three tier one and you 100% need a cover. Make sure the cover is open a bit at the top (mine has a zip in the middle of the top as like a vent) otherwise the heat collects as condensation on the clothes. For heavier things, drape them over several bars (can be on top of other clothes) and they dry much quicker.

I dried a whole load of baby clothes really quickly by laying them all across the bars on top of each other. Put the cover over and they were dry super quick.

I couldn’t live without mine and I own a tumble dryer too.

Walkingtheplank · 13/08/2020 14:58

We have one - wouldn't be without it in the colder months.
I have it in my study keeping me warm - so I don't have to heat the whole house when everyone is at work/school.

Endeavormorse · 13/08/2020 15:04

I've had mine for 10 years, still going strong. Essential in the winter as I have no tumble drier. I'd replace it if it broke or buy one off here that isn't used Grin

PlinkPlink · 13/08/2020 16:04

Oh my days I love my Lakeland.

In the winter months, I wouldn't do without it with 2 little ones.

Just lay the clothes flat across the shelves and definitely invest in a cover. It doesn't work without a cover.

Sauvignonblanket · 13/08/2020 16:09

I have a three tier one and it dries a load of washing in less than 24 hours and is less energy intensive than a tumble drier. I only use it when the weather isn't good enough to dry outside. Definitely worth getting the cover as well. I also put the heavier fabrics at the top and make sure everything is stretched out and pieces aren't touching each to help them dry properly.

mommybear1 · 13/08/2020 20:18

Hated mine sent it back I went for the big delux version with cover it didn't dry a thing and the damp smell was horrendous. Would not recommend.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 13/08/2020 22:14

Had mine for years and love it.
There is a knack to loading it so that everything dries properly.

Cover is essential, I used two old kingsized duvets over mine.
Also it wasn't in a very cold place which speeded things up.

We moved to a house that has an aga so I still use it but its not plugged in just plonked in front of the aga. It takes so much more washing than a clothes horse, just needs to be loaded properly.

Lougle · 13/08/2020 22:21

We love ours. We load it up with all of our washing (family of 5) and it dries beautifully.

LostaraYil · 13/08/2020 22:26

I have one, with the cover, and find it a bit pointless really. I can fit a load on it, but it takes up to 2 days to dry things, only the bits touching the bars dry quickly.

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 13/08/2020 22:34

Not a fan of ours which is disappointing as we shelled out for the cover as well. But it is our main airer now, we just never plug it in

Lovelydovey · 13/08/2020 22:38

I’d buy a dehumidifier instead - dries two clothes horses full overnight.

Erictheavocado · 13/08/2020 22:40

We bought one for D's and dil as they have no tumble dryer but do have a toddler! They load it up before bed, have a cover on it and say everything is dry by the morning. We bought an earlier model for dc1 when they were at university and they were impressed with it too.
