Cleaning loo with dettol

Notfeelinggreattoday · 03/08/2020 10:01

I usually clean my loo with wipes flushable ones ( though tend to bin rather than flush due to blockages ) and squirt bleach inside later in day
I have ran out of wipes / bleach ( on next del shop ) so i have been spraying toilet with dettol on outside and seat etc and using toilet roll to wipe and then flushing , but my friend has said i shpuld not be flushing dettol spray down loo ?
I often use spray when i run out wipes to do seat etc so some likely sprays on loo anyway
I never use bleach same time as spray incase they react and i am looking for something other than bleach as my toilet still has limescale but previously limescale cleaners haven't worked either ?
I will throw the loo roll in bin in future when doing now she has said but she didnt actually day why not too ??

she's talking rubbish. Ask her reasons why you shouldn't do it

No idea re using Dettol but wipes do not break down and are a major cause of blockages in sewage systems, even the ones described as flushable by the manufacturer

Flynn999 · 03/08/2020 12:13

Of all the things that go down your loo Dettol is the least of its concerns.

Canyousewcushions · 03/08/2020 12:18

Dettol is OK. "Flushable" wipes are not.

Notfeelinggreattoday · 03/08/2020 12:54

Just to add if i use wipes even flushable ones i always bin , i buy flushable just incase ds ever clean after themselves ( roll on floor laughing ) and accidentally toss down loo as think odd one must be better than the odd non flushable at least .
Can't believe they are allowed to market them as flushable to be honest

Why wipes at all? I use a cloth with bleach and wipe down the loo then wash it. But Dettol is ok.

Nosleeptilteenagers · 03/08/2020 12:59

Why would you need wipes in the first place?
Cloth and spray is more than adequate.

For the daily swish around I use Splosh bathroom spray and toilet roll which I just flush. I use a microfibre cloth (each bathroom has its own cloths) to wipe down the bath sink, bath and surfaces each day. For the weekly clean I squirt toilet cleaner under the rim and down the bowl and leave to soak while I “deep clean” the rest of the room. Then flush and use Splosh spray on the toilet, clean with the cloth. Finally mop the floor. After both bathrooms done all the cloths and the mop pad go on the hottest wash in the machine. I can’t see why you can’t flush toilet paper with dettol on TBH - it’s just a cleaning agent and goes into the same system as your bath water, kitchen sink water etc. Wipes are definitely bad though.

I spray cistern, lid, seat, underseat etc with method cleaning spray and then starting from cistern down use toilet roll to wipe down. Can't stand the thought of using a cloth and figure toilet roll flushed down the toilet must be better than wipes in either bin or flushed. After flushing I liberally squirt bleach round the bowl, use a toilet brush and leave until someone next uses the toilet.
