I meant air freshener and candle type things, they have zinc in which can be poisonous to birds. I can't even use febreze!

I usually use pure essential oils on the radiator when it is cold and I can't open windows, just wondering if there were alternatives!

Like the cinnamon sticks thing though...

Is there an actual area that got vommed on? Sprinkle it with biacarb of soda, leave for half an hour or so and hoover it.

Luckily it all got caught on the throw which has been washed, DH says he can't smell anything but I get a whiff of it when I sit down! Must be pregnancy hormones!

yes I have heard that about birds. To make a nice smell I vaguely remember hearing something about using vanilla extract in the oven to smell nice. Just cant quite remember what you do with it. try putting a few drops in some water in the oven and see what its like. worth a try and more natural for the birds.

fry some garlic.

Smells nice to me, anyway.

I found clearing out all the smelly shoes from the huge basket of shoes in the hall worked a treat at removing the stench.

Sorry to stick my nose in but cinamon and cloves in a bowl above a radiator should help.

NannyL · 01/10/2007 12:52

thanks again

i opened all the widnows in the house for half an hour... and almost froze

then i simmered some lemon and lemon zest and orange zest (having eaten the orange) and cinnamon power in some boiling water for a while... its a bit better but too lemony now, i think! lol

thanks

I open the windows when I'm not going to use a room IFSWIM- so I don't have to be cold.
Can the birds be brought into a different room while you do that?
I'm with you on the no artificial smells- they're all gross, and goodness knows how bad the chemicals in them are (for you, your dcs, your pets, the environment etc)
MIL always has them on- we have to run in unplugging them all. Though she has got better, and realises dd's lungs can't deal with them.

NannyL, sorry to hijack your thread, but could I ask you about car seats please?
Just searched for Jane on here and found your posts about them, I have bought an Auto Pro carrycot for use in the car and am wondering if you know if it is safe? I have seen the Matrix video linked to last week, it is shocking, but wasn't sure if my carrycot would be different.
You seemed to have a lot of info so I thought I'd ask you, hope you don't mind!
Thanks
