Saucepan set for induction hob

We're getting a new cooker with induction hob next week. Can anyone recommend a good saucepan set that isn't too expensive, maybe up to £70 to £80. DH believes that the cheapest is the best and that eBay is the place to buy, but I want something reasonably good. TIA.

Ikea. Honestly they are brilliant. You can pick up some basics pans to start off and add to them as you go along.

Ikea! Also tkmaxx/home sense.

OldSpeclkledHen · 29/07/2020 20:49

Ikea, mine still look good 3 years on x

Le creuset are worth every penny and last years. Over your budget but you could start with 1/2 pans in the range from TK maxx

IKEA 365 ones are fab.

KingOfDogShite · 29/07/2020 20:59

Definitely Ikea!

I've no idea about Ikea's pans but I absolutely LOVE my JML Copperstone pan set. It's not often they get stuff right, usually having gimmicky useless stuff but the Copperstone Pan set is fantastic. I originally bought a single frying pan and after frying a few eggs completely without oil I was sold and asked DH for the rest of the set for Christmas.

Cheap ones are false economy as you'll end up replacing them and spending more in the long run. These are the ones I bought recently for our induction cooker, and they're the best I've ever had. I also bought 3 frying pans in the same range. Definitely worth the money!

I have le Creuset and IKEA 365 pans and the le Creuset cook much quicker. I have to remember to set the temperature higher for the IKEA ones. I’ve had both for years and years and both sets still look brand new.

We bought a Tefal Ingenio set. They stack and the handles clip on, so they're super compact for cupboard space.

Annebronte · 29/07/2020 21:24

Le Creuset are really excellent.

AlphabetDinosaur · 29/07/2020 21:27

Also agree with Le creuset. Not sure it's the cheapest place but I noticed that Selfridges online have 20% off them at the moment.

If you're only considering buying because of the new hob it's also worth double checking whether your current pans would work. My 15 year old pans are all induction compatible already as their bases are stainless steel.

AllTheCakes · 29/07/2020 21:29

My Neff induction hob came with a small set of free pots. Still using them a couple of years later and have added some extras on.

IKEA here too, brilliant quality, 3 size saucepans and a large frying pan, €50 in Ireland.

Just find a magnet and test the bottom of all your old pans. (I got a new induction hob last month - only had to replace 2 pans.)

As for quality - my rule of thumb is pay top price for your frying pan and cook's knife, everything else can be cheap as chips. I've had Co-op/Sainsbury's pans which have lasted 20 years.

Yoyomar · 29/07/2020 21:42

I don't have a set to recommend, but would say that you need to check the bottom of any pans that you buy.

Lots of pans say they are suitable for induction but they didn't work on our hob. We had to avoid those with lots of little circles on the bottom, and only buy pans with totally flat bases.

Ikea - they are great
