End of tenancy cleaning

So, leaving in a week. The place wasn't that clean when I arrived and will need painting after the years I've been here anyway so I'm not looking for perfection. However, I'm aware I need to do more than my usual clean, which is feather duster ceilings and walls, hoover and mop the floors.
I've polished the doors and I'm thinking what else - clean door frames and skirting boards? What's the best way to do that?
I'm not going to be able to get the walls totally clean, but should I try a wet sponge on some of the darker marks?
Wipe kitchen cupboards (kitchen spray and kitchen roll?)
What else?
Unfurnished flat with kitchen equipment. Hoover is broken so no special attachments available and no dishwasher. No outside space to deal with.
I'll clean the windows once it's not raining.

I find a magic eraser sponge is good on painted skirtings.

I'd start from the top down op, dust the light fittings run your duster down the walls and finish at the skirting board and floor.

Wipe around your light switches and plugs (be so careful make sure cloth is nearly dry we don't want you getting electrocuted!)

I think cabinets in kitchen will be fine with a kitchen cleaner but maybe use a cloth or one of those nylon scourers rather than kitchen roll if you need to give it a bit more of a scrub.

Oh and clean inside the cupboards to!

Gwenhwyfar · 28/07/2020 12:00

Thanks Kimblebee. Did inside one of the kitchen cupboards today and can't really get it clean, same for the bit of floor next to the fridge. There are some old stains from some time ago.
I've given up on the tile grout. Tried the bleach last night and don't have time to order something from Amazon now.

A good tip for inside the toilet bowl is to pour a tin of full fat coke down it (swirl it around like bleach) and leave it overnight.

I think the toilet's OK, bleach seems to work on it. Done the oven today and is mainly OK. Still can't get some marks off the corners of the racks and it seems impossible to do the roof of the oven.

For the kitchen cupboards I'd use a decent spray like the cillit bang (green one for grease, really recommend this one, some others won't cut it if it's bad), give it a good spray and leave it a good few mins to work then give it a good scrub with scouring side of sponge. Go back over again this time drying it off with kitchen towel. Had a serious issue with lingering grease in my last kitchen and this did the trick for me no problems.
For the grout you can usually get a month free trial of Amazon prime (cancel it before the month is up and won't cost you anything) and that will deliver for free next day, if that helps. The HG Mould spray will probably bring the grout up (it packs a punch, will prob help those bad floor stains too tbh) in case you were looking to get that too and want to keep cost down (though doesn't hurt to have them ready for cleaning the new place too!).
Anyways like pp have said, unless they have inventoried the condition thoroughly they can't call you on every little thing, but in my experience they will still try and it is just less hassle to give it a good go as best you can and avoid issues. Good luck!

HG Scale away and mould spray are brilliant. Elbow grease spray for your kitchen.
Sugar soap on Lino floors.
Black harpic on shower glass.
Don't forget mirrors and windows. Blast a hairdryer down back of radiators to blow the dust out and baby wipe the skirting boards!
