Anyone got one of these? We're considering getting one of these range cookers

Wondering how useful the tall narrow oven is. It has a lot of shelves, but is it useful? I'd have to get new bakeware to fit, as well.
Also has induction hob, which I've never had before. Any advice?

I've got similar (Belling 90c cookcentre) and tbh we rarely use the tall oven.
I only got it last autumn as part of a kitchen refit and my main reason was I had a 90cm space to fit and didn't want to mess round with small cupboards etc and wanted symmetry of the units.
I did use it at Christmas, and if we are all having pizzas (although I'd like another shelf for that, so 4 rather than 3).
I'm not sure why I don't use it, it seems just as good as the other oven when I do.

My parents had one with a similar layout and it certainly got used when we were there. Even when it was just me visiting. I found annoying that Only certain trays fitted but you'd just have to make sure you had enough for your needs.

I have oven with same layout. I don't use the narrow one as much as the other but it is certainly useful. It heats up quicker than the main oven if you want to cook something quickly. And if I'm cooking a big dinner (roast etc) it's handy for all the extras. I wouldn't go back to only having one oven space now.

Are both ovens narrower than a standard one though? You'll end up having to buy new pans for the hob as well as new bakeware for the ovens!

I love my induction hob, although it has taken a bit of time to get used to it. I bought a new set of pans, but bought from IKEA to keep the cost down - I didn't want to ruin new, expensive kit! Actually the IKEA ones have been great, with the exception of the non-stick frying pans, which I seem to have burnt very easily. I think that was my fault, getting used to the high heat of the hob - but at least they weren't expensive, so I can justify replacing them.

Sorry, I can’t comment on that particular model but I wonder what are your reasons for wanting a range cooker, generally?

I bought a new electric Aga to replace the Rayburn that caught fire (issues with servicing), mainly because it would slot into the vacated space in the kitchen without having to re-do the rest of the kitchen.

Lots of people love their range cookers but I never did. It just didn’t suit me. It was handy having a second hob at Christmas as I had the Aga and a separate 4 burner hob.

When we moved to our current house, I redid the kitchen but ensured I had two full sized hide and slide door ovens at the right height opposite the island unit so no ridiculous bending down with heavy dishes. I definitely didn’t want a double oven as the second oven is a glorified grill and you can’t fit much in them.

I did stick with an Induction hob though, because I find them brilliant.
Induction is very fast to heat up, totally controllable and very safe. Its nothing like the old ceramic electric hobs. Far less chance of causing a kitchen fire, which when you’ve had one, you really don’t want to repeat the experience!

I don’t want to put you off but thought it might help to hear from someone who’s had one, but didn’t really get on with it.

We have a 90 cm range master

It's excellent and yes we use the narrow one. Not as much as the main but it def gets used

DrIrisFenby · 19/07/2020 15:46

We also have a 90cm Rangemaster and we use the narrow oven way more than the big one! The narrow oven is fan assisted and the big oven is gas.

Bridecilla · 19/07/2020 15:48

We only really use the narrow bit of out oven - the wide bit only gets used for cupcakes, roasts and pizzas!

PickAChew · 19/07/2020 15:49

I'd never want a range with an induction hob. It's a lot to go wrong.

The ovens are a bit limited in use, too. Both single function, one a fan oven and the other fan assisted. I don't know if you bake but I much prefer a conventional oven when I do.

Also, my mum has a leisure range cooker and hates it. The doors are clunky and it performs badly when full.
