FLYing - baby steps - the weekend

CindersNeedsHelp · 28/09/2007 18:55

This is the baby steps weekend FLY thread.

We have now completed 5 days of baby steps. Congratulations to all those who currently have a shiny sink still!

You will be glad to hear that FLYBabies need only follow their daily routine at weekend. So as I read it, as experienced FLYBabies don't do missions, zones, decluttering at the weekend, we don?t have to take new steps.

All we have to do is follow the routine we have currently built up, which is:

Get dressed
Shine your sink
Read FLYLady reminders (Saturday's reminders here and Sunday's reminders here)
Read personal reminders (written or electronic)

And we will continue with day 6 on Monday

Welcome back Shiny

SuperMonkey · 30/09/2007 20:36

I've just made chips for tea which means there's an unfortunate smattering of chip fat and starch covering the kitchen . And I still haven't done my ironing. But at least DS is asleep so I'll put the ironing board up in front of the TV and have a glass of vino (and I will reshine the sink before bed).

flowerybeanbag · 30/09/2007 20:49

DH is as we speak cleaning our v grubby and greasy cooker hood, in a bid to encourage my baby steps and do his bit!

beautifuldays · 30/09/2007 20:55

right, am taking the plunge and joining you ladies
my house permenantly looks like a tornado has blown through it, and am sick of the mess so here goes...........

one question tho - i have scrubbed and shined the sink, do i have to re-shine it after every time i use it? am avoiding putting the dirty dishes in it as it looks so nice at the mo!
will do the dishes after i've eaten my tea...honest

Had a fantastic day. Spent all morning dozing on the sofa with DD, then nipped to the supermarket with my Dad and spent the rest of the day pottering half heartedly, making Sunday lunch, although DP does most of it and playing on the internet.
But by the miracle that is my Mum the house is immaculate.

Now FLYlady just has to help me keep it like this for 2 days while I also run round like a headless chicken trying to get sorted for our first holiday with DD... first holiday in years actually. A very very kind family friend has a timeshare in Scotland for a 5 star lodge. She can't go so is letting us go for free!!! I can't believe our luck!

SuperMonkey - Yes my DD is named after the island Bryher. DP went there lots as a kid, I've only been once... our last holiday... but fell in love with the place. I cried when we had to come home. Now we have the ultimate reason to save up for another holiday there.
I'm so pleased someone has heard of it. She's only 2 months old and I'm getting bored already of having to explain it... or people thinking I've called her Brian. I've started just telling people it's a Cornish name and not going into the whole island information

systemsaddict · 30/09/2007 21:25

Just have to share an honest-to-goodness Miracle. Last night I talked to dp about how overwhelmed I was feeling at the state of the house, explained that I was starting with Flylady again and for now just need to focus on keeping the sink shiny. Which generated predictable 'what about the rest of the kitchen then?' comments, which led to equally predictable hormonal pregnant emotional breakdown from me. Got up this morning to a few glasses in the sink, yes, BUT the whole of the kitchen, living room and bathroom tidied up - he had been up till half past midnight doing it! This is quite out of character for him, so I am hugely impressed and it has helped my feelings of overwhelm considerably. So I didn't dress to shoes first thing as it would have woken him up and I thought he deserved a lie in!

SuperMonkey · 30/09/2007 21:46

Oh I feel so , you've all got useful DH/DPs.

Bilblio - I've been spending holidays in Scilly since I was 2 years old, my parents now live out there (in Hugh Town). Beautiful place and a lovely name to give your DD .

Well I've done the ironing, so I'm having a break before I tackle the kitchen sink.

bilblio · 30/09/2007 22:03

SuperMonkey I am sooo jealous! I'd love to have a relative who lived there.
One day I'll win the lottery and buy a house on Bryher... and have a helicopter so I can come back and see my family easily.

A few years ago I saw a job advertised as a live in receptionist at the Island Hotel in Tresco (my mate worked in the jobcenter at the time and put it on the boards to taunt me.) It was an 8 month contract and if it hadn't been for the fact that I'd only just moved across the country to live with my DP, I'd have applied.
I still kick myself and think I should have done it anyway

unknownrebelbang · 30/09/2007 22:05

Biblio, I want your mum!

I was very tempted to leave the sink today as DH's mission for tomorrow is the kitchen, but I did it anyway, lol.

After yesterday's flying start (pun intended) haven't done any hotspots today, it's been a bit manic with the boys being in four different places between them throughout the day (there's only three of them!) plus homework and cello practise.

I have, however, got stuff ready for work tomorrow (except I'm not sure where the boys's shoes are, lol, am hoping they do). They should, of course, get their own stuff ready, but they were sent to bed early, lol.

mylastrolo · 30/09/2007 22:17

been shining my sink all week-end although did the blessing your house yesterday. d/h asked why are you hoovering doesn't look too bad

should really get off here and do lunches and uniforms for tomorrow get swimming gear ready

but breaking news have made a really good start and practically finished my paperwork which is fab for me going on for nearly 2 weeks.

You do feel so much better with a shiny sink

beautifuldays · 30/09/2007 22:17

so should i be shining my sink after every time i use it or just once a day? confused

mylastrolo · 30/09/2007 22:18

Iknow that is a difficult one i think every time you use it wipe it down and dry it that makes a difference.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 01/10/2007 08:31

Does anyone know if I can make my FLYlady emails arrive at times compatible with the UK? It's a bit useless being told to go to bed at 4.25 am!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 01/10/2007 08:41

here you go shiny groups.yahoo.com/group/FLYingInUnitedKingdom/

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 01/10/2007 09:01

Done it, thank you Cinders. Do I need to de-register from the US one or will that be automatic?

CindersNeedsHelp · 01/10/2007 09:33

Yep, you need to de-reg from the US list!
