Mothballs? Cedar balls?

I am about to store woolens for the summer. I normally use chemical moth repellents, but wonder if the cedar balls are any good. Any opinions or recommendations for repellents? TY.

I should specify that I am looking for both sachets and the hanging type.

I am waging a battle with moths and not convinced that anything repels them. I think you have to sand the cedar balls quite frequently and other things need replacing often. The sticky traps work in that they do trap male moths, but if there are female moths laying eggs in your woollens, it's too late.

Nothing that might repel moths will stop the eggs hatching and the larvae eating their way through your clothes. Safest way is to wash them and then store in vacuum bags. If you are at all concerned that you have moths already, you can kill the larvae by putting clothes in the freezer before washing and storing.

@Cynderella Thank you so much for your advice and apologies for the late reply. Sorry to hear about your battle with moths. I don't think there are moths in my home, but I will take your advice about storing things in vacuum bags. Space-saving too.

Lavender is meant to put off moths.
Acana Moth something? works for upto 3-6 mths. You hang the little units in various places, it tells you when it is finished, or stick in them in your drawers/wardrobe.
Plus, Zero In Clothes Moth Killer.
I think the weather is too hot for them!

Hope this helps

The good old fashioned moth balls worked but they stank. I don't know if you can still buy them. My gran used them and some of the wooden furniture I have from her house still smells of them. There are more modern things you can buy from Lakeland and when we had a small moth problem they were very effective. Cedar balls smell nice but I don't think they are particularly effective.
