Dishwasher SOS

It’s always topped up with salt and rinse aid, I use a dishwasher cleaner once a month, I do a regular service wast with vinegar, the filters and spinny arms are clean and not obstructed, I use finish dishwasher tablets and scrape or rinse before putting everything in - why oh why is stuff still coming out dirty?!

Cups which go on the top are coming out with gritty stuff I don’t recognise in them and then random plates or bowls on the bottom aren’t clean.

What have I missed? Driving me mad.

Have you actually removed the arms to check inside? Sometimes the holes look clear but there’s gunk inside.

I have, run water through all the holes and it’s running free and clear. I’m honestly just out of ideas. It’s only 4 years old.

The filter?

Hi I was going to suggest making sure you stack the dishwasher with lots of spacing to make sure everything can be cleaned by the arms but I note you also say you have grit I find I have that when the salt has not been topped up and the washer not cleaned. I like you use white vinegar but I use it once a week I would suggest you also look at use a finish cleaner to see if that helps. The only other thing I'd mention is what temperature washes are you doing? I find lower/longer ones don't clean as well. What make is it? Have you had a google to see if this is a common problem? Someone else may know the answer if they have the same machine?

This happened to ours recently, we cleaned out every nook and cranny (filters, arms, pipes etc). We got an engineer out eventually, the pump wasn't working. If you switch it on with both the arms lined up completely straight towards you, then open the door after a few minutes and see if they have moved, ours weren't spinning because the pump wasn't filling them with water. It's a 4 year old Bosch.

Great advice, thank you, I know it isn’t an interesting topic! It’s a Hoover. Worked a treat for years and recently just rubbish despite my best efforts.

I haven’t googled but will.

It was a Finish cleaner thing I used.

Usually a 60 degree wash. The maintenance wash cycle on it is 70 degrees and takes ages.

In your past cleaning the filters and arms has done the job but everything is clean and clear and pretty much sparkling.

I don’t own a dishwasher so I have to hand wash half of the dishes afterwards...

Good tip on checking the arms when it’s on.
