Help with mice

Me and DH live in 3 bed rented accommodation with DD who is nearly 1. It is extremely cheap and helping us save up for a house of our own but it comes with three problems, 1) one room can get mouldy (that's another story) 2) water off the hill and 3) MICE. We are at our wits end. We have tried blocking up all entrances we can but our landlord lives in the other half of the house and so we don't know if they are somehow getting into his house and into ours and we can't find anymore entrances. Long story short they are getting in. Mainly to airing cupboard and nursery. Airing cupboard is ok as taken linens out and put traps in and blocked up door so we just empty traps and re-lay them whenever we need. However because I want to move DD into her nursery which she has not used yet due to mice when she is one, I need better solutions. Will a cat be that solution? Anyone have any advice? I'm just fed up to be honest as neither me or dh seem to be able to sort the problem and will never in a million years find rent as cheap as this so want to stay here for as long as poss. The only other option is swapping rooms with DD so me and DH have the nursery and let DD in our room which I've never seen any mice in.

I think I would call a pest control service, OP, and ask your landlord if they could have a look round his house to look for entrances etc to block up.
A cat would also be a solution, animal shelters are opening back up. Just be aware that you will need insurance for them etc

Thanks for your reply. I do think we will speak to our landlord again before a cat. So many people have mixed views on whether they actually catch mice or bring them in.... Thanks for advice

I think a cat would catch mice if it saw one indoors, our cat definitely would

You can get sonic devices which deter mice. They are like electric plugs that go into electric sockets and emit a very high pitched sound that scare mice off. Might be worth a go.

I have used one of the electronic plug ins. Took a few weeks to work which according to the instructions is normal if a well established nest, stuck with it and havent seen or heard anything since.

Thankyou for that. Have only tried a high pitched phone app which does nothing but will buy some plug ins today then. Thanks so much. Good to know they work. Couple of things to try before the slightly more complicated cat then!

I used to get mice in a flat i rented before I bought my house. The sonic plug ins didn't help at all. When I bought my house I got a cat (Ive moved since then and acquired 2 more cats!). I've not had mice in either house. However my cats regularly bring them in live from outside and then lose all interest in them so we end up catching them. Don't get a cat to help you get on top of your mouse problem.

I’d use pest control too, your council might run a service.

Please don’t use glue traps though, they are very cruel.
