Steam mop??

I’m just toying with the idea of a steam mop. We recently laid a beautiful but hard to clean tiled floor in our kitchen. It’s a very very pale grey with a honed surface and dirt sticks to it. I have reasonable success if I get on the floor with a scrubbing brush, but this involves: scrub, wipe up with a cloth and mop with clean water. In between I use a spray mop. I’m just wondering if I should bite the bullet and go for a steam mop. There are other tiled floors (bathrooms) that could use it. I’m thinking the vileda one which is Amazon’s choice currently

I just bought one of these
www.amazon.co.uk/Vax-S86-SF-CC-Steam-Classic-Multifunction/dp/B00KPT6AOG/ref=asc_df_B00KPT6AOG/?hvlocphy=9045939&linkCode=df0&hvptwo&psc=1&psc=1&hvnetw=g&hvadid=214522367922&hvpone&hvlocint&th=1&hvpos&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl&hvqmt&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&hvtargid=pla-441872996567&hvrand=12496343147652833271

I like it so much I just bought one for my mum. Really easy to use, heats up fast and does a really good job on my hard floors and titles but also steamed a stain on the sofa and it helped lift it really well too.

Ah brilliant, thanks! Argos have a quicker availability for that one and it’s just round the corner (in sainsburys).

I have a karcher steam cleaner and it does a great job of floors and I use it to deep clean the oven and clean the inside of the windows. I use lots of the microfibre pads to do the floor to insure I'm picking up the muck and not spreading it around.

LadyEloise · 14/06/2020 11:34

I have a Black and Decker one - the velcro style grip on the mop and the cleaner itself is dreadful. I have 3 separate mops and none of them will "stick on" after a few uses.
Design flaw Hmm

I had a Vax and Morphy Richards.
Both broke after a fairly short time. Couldn't be mended. Shocking after purchase service.
Just not good enough !!!!Angry

I'll buy Shark next. Hopefully this will workwell and last.

I got the vileda off Amazon and I love it. Easy to use, lightweight and great value. Haven't tried the carpet attachment properly yet.

Flamingolingo · 14/06/2020 12:48

Any ideas on whether it could be used to clean car upholstery after a car sick child has sicked all over it? (I’ve done the warm soapy water and bicarb trick, but was just wondering, since this is a reasonably regular occurrence for us)

Another vote for the Vileda one!

LadyEloise · 14/06/2020 13:01

Which Vileda one ?

happystory · 14/06/2020 17:20

I've just looked up my order it's just called Vileda steam mop was £55 just before Christmas. It's red!!

dragonflyee · 14/06/2020 17:38

Same as happystory

brittanyfairies · 14/06/2020 17:39

I have a karcher all my floors are tiled. I love it, it cleans really well

EvilPea · 14/06/2020 17:42

I tried a steam mop on dog sick. It just made the smell worse so I would assume it the same for human.
You need a shampooer and suck that sick out.
I’ve hired one for £20 before.

LadyEloise · 14/06/2020 19:46

Id love to know which steam mop Which recommends

Flamingolingo · 15/06/2020 06:53

@EvilPea thanks - maybe I won’t use it on the sick then 😱

Does anyone have a subscription to Which magazine ?
Which steam mop do they recommend ?

I'm not a tight wad - there is no point in getting a subscription for Which as I don't live in the UK so a lot of their information is irrelevant.

ToddlerBumpBorderCollie · 24/06/2020 21:20

Which?
Best all round - dupray neat (£180 Shock)
Best Handheld -Hoover Steam Express SSNH1000
Best value - Bush upright steam mop
Best cylinder - dupray neat
Best for carpet- Polti vaporetto pro 95 turbo flexi

Avoid- thane, vax, black and decker

I have a vax and I must admit I use my old school mop that looks like dolls hair far more frequently as the vax is a faff and hurts my back.

I’m moving somewhere with lots of hard floors and I think I’m just going to get a spray mop. I’ve heard great things.

LadyEloise · 25/06/2020 18:04

Thank you so much

GrumpyHoonMain · 25/06/2020 18:10

Those types of tiles will always be harder to clean and you can’t get away from scrubbing. Mum bought a scrubbing tool with a telescopic handle similar to the Oxo one linked below. She has arthritis but it is still really easy to use. Follow that up with the Vileda spray mop and it should be golden lol

Fleetheart · 25/06/2020 18:13

I have a Russell Hobbs steam mop; it was only £45 and I am very pleased with it. Cleans tiles very easily and not a faff so I would recommend it.

LadyEloise · 25/06/2020 18:40

ToddlerBumpBorderCollie
Did WHICH say why to avoid Black and Decker ?
I find the cord is far too short with no way to wind and hold it after use plus the velcro doesn't work. I have 3 B&D mop heads and none of them will stick properly. I have to hold them in place with hair bobbins either side. 🙄
It drives me bonkers.
I won't ever rebuy a Black and Decker.

Likewise the Vax broke far too quickly as did the Morphy Richards.

Any mention of Shark Flip ones ?

Thanks again.

endlessginandtonic · 25/06/2020 19:05

I've had a shark flip for a couple of years and find it pretty good.
