Anyone used a rug doctor or similar?

And do they really work? I have 2 grey rugs and one has a big spaghetti bolognese stain on it from crazy toddler, will it really take the stain out? I can't be bothered with the hassle if they're not that good

Yes and it’s amazing!

I’ve 15 year old beige carpets that I rug doctor every other year. Gets all the dirt out, extremely satisfying.

Search on mumsnet but last time I used persil bio liquid instead of their products after seeing it mentioned here.

I've used rug dr twice and been happy with the results both times. (Its that balance been disgusted and satisfying when you see the black water that comes out!!)
But both times were general grubbiness rather than a particular stain. The first time we did in a flat in winter and it stank the flat out (it smelled like awful cabbage for days!😂) I think because we were out at work during the day and all windows and doors were closed. Second time was in a house in spring/summer and I kept the doors open as much as poss and it didnt smell at all.

Yes the rug doctor is amazing.

Oh I'm surprised, they're not too expensive, about £25 for a weekend and my mum will probably want to use it too.

@Laaf80 is it just persil bio liquid you use for washing clothes? That would be easier and I'm guessing cheaper plus if there's any left over it'll do for the washing

Sorry to jump in but how long does it take for the carpets to dry? Ive kids and dogs and been meaning to do this for too long!

Laaf80 · 13/06/2020 20:21

Yep: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/housekeeping/1120753-Rug-Doctor-Carpet-Cleaner-and-detergent-Persil

So I’ve always done it in summer, open windows, put the heating on. Obviously not good for the environment but neither is replacing a carpet due to musty smells.

After I’ve washed the carpets I put the machine back over the carpet without activating the washing lever, to suck up as much water as I can.

Leaves carpet damp but not wet, dry within 24 hrs.

I do it every year. I use stardrops liquid and it works a treat. Whilst it’s drying I always put down old bed sheets to step on and this tends to help with drying out. As long as you don’t do too many passes and over wet your carpet it shouldn’t smell.
