Would it be worth getting a cordless hoover?

I've recently started a cleaning job in private houses. 3-5 hours a day, general dusting, hoovering and cleaning. I'm carting my heavy plug in hoover around and it's very noisy in my ear when I do stairs. It's also a pain plugging/unplugging all the time as some houses aren't small.

I've used a cordless one - one of my client's own and it's fab.

I've been looking at Hoover and Vax ones with two batteries.

Does anyone else clean for a living and use one? Or not clean for a living and do lots of hoovering? Do they keep you going for long enough? The most running time is 80 mins (50 for floor use) for both batteries.

If you've bought one do you find that the running time stated is accurate?

Thank you.

I'm not a cleaner but I do have a cordless Dyson. After a few months I became really dissatisfied with it.
The battery life quickly diminished, I have to clean the head every 10 minutes as it just can't cope with (human) hair, and it just doesn't give a really deep clean.
I suppose it's like using a spray mop vs a real mop, it's OK for daily use but you still need the real thing weekly.
Might be worth investing in one just for stairs I guess.

I have a Shark cordless and love it (as much as you can love something as dull as a vacuum cleaner!). I only have one battery, which lasts about 30 mins. As a cleaner, I would guess you would need two at a minimum, preferably three - and the batteries are quite pricey. If you had two and brought the charger with you, you could be charging one ready for the next job whilst hoovering with the other I guess...

I have the Gtech Air Ram for downstairs, had it for about 6 years & Morphy Richards cordless for upstairs. I would never have a corded vacuum cleaner again. It’s so much quicker & for me a lot safer, no cord to trip over. I have a cleaner, she always uses my hoover & products never brings anything with her.

Hi, wow thanks for the speedy replies.
I never really considered the life of the battery! Yes thought about carrying the charger around. Is that 30 minutes just on the floor?

Also, I clean a long pile carpet and really struggle with mine. Wondered if they were any good for that?

I've looked at the Shark ones too and wondered how good they are. Never heard of them.

I thought the cordless one at my client's was amazing but I wasn't hoovering for that long really. The Vax one.

I haven't found them very powerful.

What sort of vac are you using that is too heavy? There might be a corded vac that's powerful and lightweight.

Do you prefer upright or cylinder?

Eminybob · 13/06/2020 17:05

I’d highly recommend a dual battery shark. Really powerful, long battery life, and dead simple to pop the next battery in if one runs out.

Do not under any circumstances get a cordless Dyson, mine was absolute garbage.

I agree that the Gtech are brilliant, very smooth & lightweight and powerful but not keen on the compartment for emptying.

I currently use an upright Hoover, I've had it for 8 years! I do prefer an upright one. I didn't think of a more lightweight corded one. It's the cord that annoys me when doing room to room very frequently. Maybe I should get one with an extra long cord (if they exist?).

Duel Battery Shark? So it holds two batteries at once?

I've just had a look at the Shark Duel Battery - a bit pricey but thank you.

Has anyone got the AEG CX7 cordless vacuum? Any reviews? Smile

I've just measured the cord on my hoover - just under 6 metres, that's pants compared to what I can get!

I have a shark cordless best hoover I've had.
I would probably suggest if your doing cleaning jobs getting a spare battery or 2 then you can have them pre charged :)

I keep an extension lead permanently plugged into mine. I can do multiple rooms without unplugging - makes life much easier 😄
nolovelost · 14/06/2020 11:23

@BlueCowWonders thanks, I didn't think of that! My current hoover is too heavy, too noisy and not mobile enough for the job, so I'm definitely going to get a new one. Possibly a cordless, maybe a corded one which is easier.

Thanks for all the comments.

In have Dysons and I don’t think the cordless one hoovers as well as the plug in on.
