I am I know but I do wonder whether we really need it in the home - I think fair enough to have it in the kitchen but the bathroom ? But I always do buy it 'just in case' and feel I'm being made to be more neurotic.

Neurotic. Plain old soap and water is just as good and cheaper. Plus anti-bac may help to contribute to antibiotic resistance. So not a good thing.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 12:30

and I read that the triclosan can, when mixed with water make chlorine gas which is obviously not very good ! I know you're right edam.

Neurotic

with a tendency to overspend on unecessary items

must master the art of the smiley!

PrincessGoodLife · 23/09/2007 12:40

neurotic

gibberish · 23/09/2007 12:42

Neurotic - we don't need them.

SlightlyMadSweden · 23/09/2007 12:43

I buy the one I want although TBH these days it tends to be antibac for kitchen and bathroom becasue
a) BOGOF offers (use one in kitchen one in bathroom) and

b) half of teh squirty soaps are antibac anyway now.

I don't buy bathroom soap because it is antibac, and it wouldn't bother me if it wasn't it is justt he way it ahappens to be.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 13:02

mmm, I'm obviously neurotic then...will mend my ways

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 23/09/2007 13:04

neurotic and probably harmful

triclosan

I use tea tree soap which has naturally disinfecting properties

tutter · 23/09/2007 13:06

really? heck i suppose so, parents never had it did they?

i use it loads, what with 2 boys in nappies

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 15:13

any other opinions ? I have to say that the constant onslaught of anti-bact products on the market is pretty hard for someone with ocd to put up with !

I'm with Edam (am writing piece on antibiotics at the mo).

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 15:17

I am definitely going to try to not get anti-bact. - I know this is sensible !

OP posts:
PinkMartini · 23/09/2007 15:18

I have been reading about this recently and worry if I'm neutoric.
Where do you get your teatree soap from, please, Franny? I love the smell of manuka so would be v happy with that.

JackieNo · 23/09/2007 15:19

I'm not keen on the antibacterial soaps all over the place (although I do have it in the kitchen) - we have Tisserand's tea tree and grapefruit skin wash in the bathroom (in one of those things that converts it to a foam, so it lasts longer), and I can use it on my face too.

Tottie32 · 23/09/2007 15:20

how do you convert it to a foam, - sounds nice

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 15:22

I think the squirty thing just magically turns the liquid soap into froth - had some Sainsbury's kids soap that did that

OP posts:
Tottie32 · 23/09/2007 15:27

oh ok sorry i thought you put it into something else out its original container.... but it comes in the foaming thing does it?
can you buy that product in the shops?

JackieNo · 23/09/2007 15:35

The Tisserand doesn't just do it out of the container, but you can just buy something like this and refill it once it's used up (refill with a third soap, a third water - makes the soap last longer too). I've got one like that in the kitchen that I've refilled loads. Also got a more elegant one upstairs in the bathroom that I got from lakeland, but can't find it there now.

Yurtgirl · 23/09/2007 15:37

Watch the BBC3 programe How dirty can I get? The presenter didnt wash at all for 6 weeks!!!!!!!!!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 15:40

I saw that yurtgirl - it's what made me think of posting this !!
was fascinating - I do think it would be unbearable not to clean your teeth though - eeew

(foamer bottles available here, and other places too).

JackieNo · 23/09/2007 15:46

(aha - finally found the one I had from Lakeland).

McDreamy · 23/09/2007 15:50

I say neurotic too, no need for in the home. Only required in hospitals. There, my infection control nurse perspective aired

Tottie32 · 23/09/2007 16:01

ohoooohhh thankyou fOR THAT

Furball · 23/09/2007 16:05

Yurtgirl - I saw that programme, it was interesting but pointless and she did have 5000 times more bacteria than most people at the end. Would have been a better experiment if she just used water to wash with and cut out soaps.

PMSL when that bird shit on her head though.
