How long do you spend doing ‘house stuff’ each day

Just wondering really roughly how long people spend keeping up with house stuff each day? Just general things, tidying up, washing, preparing meals, cleaning, gardening.

I am not the best when it comes to domesticated tasks, we get by but it certainly doesn’t come naturally to me. I would like to improve.

On our walks in lockdown we see so many people out making their gardens look lovely and I’ve heard of friends fully decluttering and spring cleaning their homes. I’d love to be able to do this but I let time pass me by so easily. I am wfh but part time and homeschooling where possible.

How long do you spend daily and when do you fit it all in around dc’s and work?

Sadly I no longer have a garden, I used to spend a lot of time doing little jobs in the garden - it was such a pleasurable thing to do.

Preparing food and cleaning kitchen: my lovely husband does that every day, he seems to enjoy it, he might spend 1h in the kitchen (cleaning as he goes, very organized).

I'm supposed to clean the house, which I do as infrequently as possible. Actually I only clean my house when the dirt upsets me, which is not very often. Couldn't tell you how much time a week I spend doing this... perhaps 90min one week, none the next.

I put clothes in the washing machine once or twice a week, as needed.

No children and we both work just a few hours a week (semi retired). Not sure where the times goes... but we are often outdoors, running or riding our bicycles.

Hope my lax attitude helps you feel extra clean and organized Wink

Most days in the summer I:
do some laundry, do one or two of with put on washing., hang up, put away - probably 15-20 mins a day

check garden plants, deadhead, clear leaves, cut grass, water etc (whatever needs going - little and often is my garden motto) - about 20-30 mins most days but every couple of weeks, I might spend 1-2 hours out there doing bigger jobs

wiping surfaces in kitchen and sweeping floors downstairs (2-3 times a day after cooking usually) -so 10 min total

cleaning/clearing the kitchen and washing up - about an 45 mins a day but broken into 10-15 min slots for each meal (bone of contention this as the dishwasher is broken)

preparing meals - 2x 30 -40 mins so about 1.5 hours a day - on average some days more some less

Make bed, tidy around upstairs and bring down washing, plus quick bathroom wipe (10 mins)

Total of is about 2.5 hrs a day including cooking

I use The Organised Mum Method app, so between 30-60 minutes a day, except for the two days I work which are 10-15 minutes a day. I find it helps to give me a list I can tick off, plus to do a little bit each week means it's not such a big slog if you only do things less regularly. I tend to do each day with 17-month-old DS having a nap elsewhere, unless DH has him.

Preparing meals I do as and when. DH and I have a rota so we know which evenings we're "on duty".

I probably spend 2 hours each day cleaning - I have small children and they mess it as soon as I clean it! My oldest helps to put things away so that's helps. I have a little abs often approach and try to clean as I go.
I make their meals and try to clean while they eat.
I try to clean the bathrooms each day and clean the upstairs one when they are in the bath. We are both wfh, trying to home school and keep some sort of order on the house - I used to imagine how clean and tidy the house would be if I was home more and had more time 🤦‍♀️ time is not the issue!

As little as I can possibly get away with Blush

Honestly it's hours for me. I think I must be slow.

Whip the hoover round at the weekend - 15 mins
Mop at the weekend - 15 mins
Dust at the weekend - 15 mins
3 washes a week & hang out - 15 mins
Iron once a week - 30-45 mins
Cook - 15-30 mins a day (I like this bit)
Washing up 5 mins per day
Change the bed weekly - 5 mins
Weekly bathroom deep clean - 15 mins
Gardening - This isnt a chore - its for pleasure so this doesnt count.

1 hour/1 hour 30 a day? between sweeping up dog hair (she's a bugger for shedding!), washing up, cooking, making endless cups of tea, laundry, tidying up. I do it in bits, not one bulk hour, shudder.

I'm also trying to combine wfh/woh and sewing a whole new summer wardrobe cos everything in the shops is shit! And making the odd facemask as i have a lot of funky material.
