Organic Milk and Butter - Necessary or OTT

I buy Organic fruit and veg and used to buy organic meat but having listened to a recent soil association lady on radio I came ot the conclusion that I only really need to be careful with chicken i.e. buy from Farm Select places. Cows, pigs and sheep don't "allow" themselves to be reared in terrible conditions. With this in mind do I still need to buy organic milk and butter?

I agree with lady topham hat... a very good friend of my sisters farms 'organically' in this country

(farms lots of salady stuff alot of which ends up in waitrose and M&S shelves)

He says that there are lots of things that they should not use routinely but can use in extream circumstances (last summer (2006) was extream weather apparently) so they were legally allowed to (and DID) use these chemicals then and still call them orgainic

Organic milk all the time. Meat must be at least Free Range.

We get organic milk delivered by our milkman (Dairy Crest) and it comes in pint glass bottles.

organic butter tastes much creamier than standard imo. i mostly buy on basis of taste e.g. non-free-range pork tastes of naff all so i never bother. but i also tend to buy first choice from veg box scheme (getting a box is cheaper than supermarket organic and tricks me into eat more f&v and seasonal) and farmers market (which is mostly free range rather than organic and again cheaper for meat than supermarket). then whatever else i need i get as and when and don't agonise massively over. so am total contradiction with no hard and fast rules, but tend to organic when i have tha option.

fabulous moment in local greengrocers last week.

An Aspirational couple (Highlights, Boden) with a baby OBVIOUSLY their PFB walked in, and cornered the owner.

Them "Are these cherries organic?"

Him "If by that, you mean carbon based, then yes."

I PMSL

I love my greengrocer, he's wonderful!

organic milk has a third more omegas (brain building thingys) than standard milk iirc.

we try and buy as much organic as possible, definitely milk though. I have noticed though that its often worth checking out small local suppliers for good food welfare standards though as they often farm to organic standards but can't afford to go through the accreditation process.
