What sort of pipe? And what is it made of? How accessible is it?

southeatsastras · 19/09/2007 20:36

ooo an answer!

copper, very accesible, but one leak on tap and connected to boiler? need a short term solution

(not so much an answer; more a load of questions, and it's not exactly my area of expertise, but here goes)

Something like these might work. I think I'd try going into somewhere like Homebase and asking someone (or better still, an old-fashioned hardware shop, where they might know what they're talking about).

the repair bandage and putty look perfect, thanks! my dad suggested sealant

i know the system will need to be drained for the plumber to replace them, but they're dripping slowly now. they must have been like it for ages. groan

I googled 'pipe leak sealant heating' and it was about the 5th or 6th link. Just luck, I think in this instance. HOpe you get it sorted.

Denso tape is what ya need!

Denso tape

southeatsastras · 19/09/2007 20:59

denso tape.

i don't want to tape it if i can help it. one leak is on a bendy joint the other is on a tap that was black with mould. i can't belive i missed it.

grr leaky pipes

Me too - so much potential for mess and chaos.

southeatsastras · 19/09/2007 21:12

i missed a leak from my washing machine last year, it rotted all the floorboards. water causes the most damage doesn't it. i'm jinked with plumbing problems

OP posts:

. DH has nailed through a central heating pipe before now, which is why I know there is stuff you can get to seal them.

southeatsastras · 19/09/2007 21:16

i really didn't think i could get anything. i've got old towels around it now.

PTFE tape might seal the leak around the joint temporarily?? You could try a silicone sealant but not sure if it would work on copper pipes!

Failing that, call a plumber! (Might cost you a fortune in call out charge though)

There is stuff call apoxy resin. You can get it in hardware stores. Might work.
