Why is my bedroom always dusty?

Wonder if anyone can hint at the source of dust in my bedroom? It is driving me nuts!!!

I live in an 18th century cottage, and it's just so dusty. My bedroom in particular is dusty. Recently refurbed the bedroom, walls sealed, and 4 layers of paint and ceiling painted. All furniture deep cleaned, and wiped down every single inch.

New expensive bedding, blinds. Only think that I can see dust coming off if I hit it, is a very expensive woollen tapestry blanket. I've put this on the line, and beat it too to get rid of dust. But shouldn't give off dust as it's on the end of the bed.

Hoover twice a week. But DUST. Every friggin day! I can run my finger across the chest of drawers or desk and there will be a layer of dust. I dusted on top of a picture frame after one week and thick were a thick accumulation of dust, like you'd imagine in a room not cleaned for months. I have kept windows closed, and that reduced the issue a bit.

Any idea what is causing this? I wash my clothes regularly and am clean before someone suggests that Grin

My house is very dusty. It's an old house and the worst room is my bedroom. The window is usually open.

I blame it on pollution in the air.

LikeDuhWhatever · 18/05/2020 19:47

Hmm...errr...newsflash...furniture gets dusty.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/05/2020 19:51

Dust comes from skin cells, fabric and IME tissues are a big source.

So of course bedrooms get dusty.

Selfsettling3 · 18/05/2020 19:52

It maybe because it was recently refurbished but I was expect to see dust again after 5 days.

Selfsettling3 · 18/05/2020 19:53

Try hoovering your mattress.

EdwinaMay · 18/05/2020 19:55

Have you used some type of chalk paint on the walls and there's a powdery dust from it?

AgathaX · 18/05/2020 20:02

It may still be settling after the refurb. Otherwise it's probably an oddity of your house. Old houses do get dusty - I know this well Grin.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 18/05/2020 20:04

Our house is very dusty too. We have a glass corner table that is thick with dust the day after it's properly dusted. Drives me mad.

TommyandGina · 18/05/2020 20:05

Do you spray deodorant in there?

skinnyhotchoc · 18/05/2020 20:07

Mine is exactly the same! Usually takes half a day for another layer to settle

IdblowJonSnow · 18/05/2020 20:10

Can you use a damp cloth? That should trap it a bit rather than flick it back into the air.

RandomMess · 18/05/2020 20:12

You don't use dry shampoo do you?

Northernsoullover · 18/05/2020 20:12

My bedroom dust is largely dry shampoo Confused. The rest of the house is because I'm a slattern.

Pinkywoo · 18/05/2020 20:15

Is there a fireplace in the room?

flashbac · 18/05/2020 20:17

I have this problem. Convinced its due to hairdryer use.

Ugzbugz · 18/05/2020 20:31

My front room is like this, wipe the TV out over and by the afternoon need to do again and I live in a newish flat....

isabellerossignol · 18/05/2020 20:34

I know this sounds grim, but hear me out.

Do you, or anyone in your family, suffer from dry skin? A lot of dust is made up of skin cells after all. I know that my elderly mothers house, who suffers from dry skin in old age, is much dustier than mine, and much dustier than it was when it was my family home many years ago.

Justgivemesomepeace · 18/05/2020 20:36

Dry shampoo here too. It's a bugger for getting everywhere.

Looneytune253 · 18/05/2020 20:38

Mine does too but it's dry shampoo

Onone · 18/05/2020 20:40

Mines the bathroom Iv no idea why

EnidSugden · 18/05/2020 20:43

It’s because you take your clothes off in the bedroom. Skin cells get wafted about.

Junobug · 18/05/2020 20:46

My bathroom is like this. It drives me potty how one room in the house can be wiped everyday but still be dusty.
We renovated our house recently, it took months for the dust to settle properly.

NameChangedToProtect1 · 18/05/2020 20:46

I blame the tumble dryer!

Bluntness100 · 18/05/2020 20:47

I get this, I think it’s hair product that lands invisibly on the surfaces and then the dust sticks to it.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/05/2020 20:57

Mines the bathroom Iv no idea why

Tearing off loo roll, towelling yourself sheds skin, hair brushing....
