Best thing to clean stubborn stains in bathtub?

I’ve scrubbed that bloody bath with what feels like 1000 different things (harsh chemicals and natural) and I just can’t seem to get the marks off. Marks are from kids toys and a general tide mark around the edge the just won’t come off! It’s so grim.

It’s an old bath so I know the enamel has gone porous, but we hope to move soon so I won’t be spending money to replace the bath or re enamel. But it drives me mad so cleaning tips would be appreciated!

Have you tried an abrasive cream cleaner? That's what I find most effective on my old bath.

Smillar2020 · 22/05/2020 16:05

Magic eraser!

Biensur40 · 24/05/2020 10:35

Maybe try Barkeepers' Friend. It got the stains off of ours but test on inconspicuous area first as not sure if it is ok on enamel baths. Link here www.barkeepersfriend.com/fastest-way-to-clean-a-dirty-bathtub/

Pink stuff!! It's ace run a bit of leave and wipe off I had nail varnish marks from my gel nails when cleaning the kids in the bath and it got it off great. Also pink stuff is £1!!

ivegotthisyeah · 08/06/2020 21:54

Sorry that should say run a bit on and leave

ivegotthisyeah · 08/06/2020 21:55

Rub!! Bloody rub not run

Sweetlikecoca · 08/06/2020 21:55

I second Barkeepers' Friend.

redsky75 · 08/06/2020 21:56

Flash magic eraser

gamerchick · 08/06/2020 21:57

Magic sponge?

Mummydaydreams · 08/06/2020 21:57

Generally I use cif but magic eraser is the only thing that got the kids paint stains off the bath, I'd scrubbed with bleach and nothing and then used the magic eraser just gently and it was clean.

justanotherneighinparadise · 08/06/2020 21:58

Magic sponge.

missyB1 · 08/06/2020 22:02

Bar keepers friend it’s amazing!

Ginfordinner · 08/06/2020 22:03

Toothpaste
Yes, it really does work.

goldpendant · 08/06/2020 22:06

Flash magic eraser, works a treat on the huge black kid marks!!

howdidigettobe50something · 08/06/2020 22:10

Another vote for Barkeeper's Friend. Brilliant stuff and great on white sinks too.

TiggeryBear · 08/06/2020 22:10

We've got an ancient enamel bath & I've resigned myself to it just looking filthy 🙈

kirkandpetal · 10/06/2020 12:04

Pink stuff in the tub. It's fab. Slight abrasive so check a small area first. It's shifts stuff where other cleaners have failed. Barg at £1 too. Lasts ages.

Pink Stuff and Elbow Grease spray are my HG cleaning products - both cheap and work brilliantly.

Angbunnyboo · 10/06/2020 22:02

@kirkandpetal - where do you get pink stuff & elbow grease please? I'd like to give them a try.

kirkandpetal · 11/06/2020 05:19

Most of the pound/ bargain stores have them (I know Poundland and B&M def have it for example) and I'm pretty sure Pink Stuff is in Sainsburys too.

Ginfordinner · 11/06/2020 10:48

I would still try the toothpaste route first because you will already have some in the house. It worked brilliantly on our bath to erase the marks from plastic bath toys when nothing else worked.

Wormthatturned · 12/06/2020 13:00

For plastic bath, Magic eraser is, well, magic

Gellert · 12/06/2020 13:08

Viakal worked well on ours.

MovingSwiftlyOn · 15/06/2020 22:05

I remember my mum scrubbing our old enamel bath with half a lemon. No idea if it worked (I was about 5 years old and a bit bemused), but I'm sure she did it more than once! Just Googled it and apparently it is a thing, with either salt or bicarb. Good luck!

Waterlemon · 15/06/2020 22:14

Abrasive cleaners make it worse, as they further strip off the enamel

We had a both resurfaced in situ. Not sure how long it lasted - was guaranteed for about 5 Or 7 years I think, but we moved a year later.
The bath was far deeper and longer than modern water saving baths, we didn’t want to replace it.
