Potato storage

At the beginning of lockdown I bought a sack of potatoes from the farm shop. They're the best potatoes we've ever had and we want to continue buying them in this way rather than from the supermarket but not sure how/where to store them? At the moment they're in the sack in the utility room but we've had to move the recycling bins out into the hall to make space which isn't suitable long term. We don't have a garage or watertight shed nor space in the kitchen for the sack or a bin. Any ideas for attractive potato storage? (Not a question I ever thought I'd ask!)

You can get wicker potato storage containers. I've no idea where though

@birkenstocks4ever
I love having a sack of spuds in the house, so economical and long lasting, but it can be hard to store them
They must be kept in the dark, to prevent going green, but also ventilated, to prevent rot, which is why the paper sacks work so well, but they are not very attractive.
You could look for a very heavy duty canvas bag, or a sturdy wicker laundry basket could work. If I buy spuds from the supermarket I transfer them to a large unlined canvas ‘bag for life’ to keep out the light and stop them ‘sweating’ and then put them in old wicker picnic basket.

I have wicker drawers in the kitchen, but how about a wicker laundry basket and lid?

Honestly if anyone looked at my Google search history over the last week they'd think I was the saddest person ever - it's all about potato storage! 😁 Hadn't thought about a laundry basket - that could be an option. Thanks

Not a storage idea as such, but are you able to share a sack with one or two other households?
This would mean less spuds to store, therefore less space. Also has the advantage of more frequent turnover therefore fresher spuds.

We often share a sack between three of us as I find I can't quite get through them quick enough and same issue storing whole sack

You need a potato hopper! Quite a few pop up when I google it.

birkenstocks4ever · 14/05/2020 07:29

Good idea to split a bag

I do need a hopper but I've got nowhere to put it! 😔
