Washing machine delivery, installation & removal

Our washing machine is about to die and can't be repaired - new fault since covid19 so we couldn't preempt it.
All the major companies are no longer doing installation, however, plumbing services are.
It's cheaper & more convenient if the company we buy from does the whole lot. Also, I don't think the plumbing companies will take away our old appliance.

Does anyone of s reputable company that sells washing machines and will do the other bits, too? Due to our work & having kids it's not practical to go to the laundrette 5x/week and we can't ask neighbours.

Thanks

AO.com. Very good service, I’ve used them many times before. Curry’s (their adverts on TV seem to suggest they’re still installing). Installing a washing machine is very easy, the fee these companies charge is high in comparison to the work required to fit.

LittleBearPad · 04/05/2020 19:57

You can probably do it yourself.

LilithTheKitty · 04/05/2020 20:01

You don't need to pay someone to install a washing machine. It's very easy to do yourself. There will be a tube running from the back of the machine into a fixture on the wall. Turn off the little tap on the fixture and unscrew the tube (you don't even need tools). Move out the old machine, put in the new, screw the new tube on and then turn the tap on again.

Bagelsandbrie · 04/05/2020 20:04

AO currently aren’t installing.

You’d be better to get a local person to install and then hang on to the old one until you can take it to the tip when they re open.

Thanks all

Curry’s aren’t installing either, although as PP says, it’s very simple to do yourself.

If you have another adult to help and can manage to disconnect the old one and move it outside, Curry’s will still take it away when they deliver a new one.

CrotchetyQuaver · 04/05/2020 23:44

Have you any independent electrical shops near you? I've found ours to be very good and competitive price wise, the service is way better. They turn up at the appointed time and install the new one and take away the old one. A distress call on a local Facebook page may be helpful, ive seen it work since lockdown on our ones.

PhilipJennings · 05/05/2020 00:21

It is very easy to do yourself in terms of working out what goes where.

The only problem is that you might need someone else to help you push it/wrestle it into place.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 05/05/2020 00:28

Don't forget the bolts if you install it yourself

noworklifebalance · 05/05/2020 09:07

@SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing

Bolts?!

Very grateful to you all for giving advice on this!

Bolts hold the drum steady in transport, they unscrew from the back.

KittenVsBox · 05/05/2020 09:21

Honestly, uninstalling and reinstalling a washing machine, assuming you can move it in the first place, is pretty simple.

The scrap men are still collecting round here if you needed to dispose of a washing machine after a local plumber had installed the new one, if you decide to go that route tho.

LIZS · 05/05/2020 09:22

Council here will still collect fridges, wm etc from roadside if you book.

DreamingofSunshine · 05/05/2020 09:24

If you are based in London I can give you the name of the company who installed our new integrated fridge freezer and took away the old one. The previous one stopped working and it's very hard to live with no fridge but AO/Currys/John Lewis would only deliver to the door which didn't help me install it, and I'm a single adult in a basement flat. The company I used were brilliant.

Roselilly36 · 05/05/2020 09:30

Door step delivery at the moment due to Covid19.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 05/05/2020 10:05

As LIZS said. They hold the drum in place during transit.

If you don't take them out you can do significant damage

Easilyanxious · 05/05/2020 10:06

I wonder if after Sunday's announcement some may start doing installations ? If you can wait bit in saying that my husband always does our washing machine as I don't believe it's that hard and round her also the scrap men still seem to be collecting items , or again maybe a local independent we have several washing machine repair men around here who also will supply and fit ??

puddingisgood · 05/05/2020 13:07

I'm in the same boat nowork. Except I live alone in an upstairs flat, with a tiny galley kitchen where there is no room to manoeuvre anything. It's a nightmare!

Newcatmum · 05/05/2020 13:10

I ordered one from Very a few weeks ago and was given the option to pay for installation/removal but ex was staying here at the time so just done it himself. And yes we didn't know about the bolts, that was a fun discovery after the first use Grin.

AnnaMagnani · 05/05/2020 13:14

Your council will probs by doing bulky waste pickups.

My dishwasher died last week and DH plumbed the new one in - apparently it wasn't too hard.

Rang the council - cost £35 for picking up 3 items so we easily found 2 other items festering about waiting to go to the tip. We just had to get them to the edge of the property. Dishwasher is now gone.

Wish we had known this at the start of lockdown, we have loads of stuff they could have picked up.

VenetoResident · 08/05/2020 10:54

I've plumbed in washing machines and dishwashers lots of times. I'm not a particularly handy person. The hardest bit is the weight of them. Have you got anyone to help you? Even a strong older child? If not I've pulled & pushed things on a piece of cardboard.

Make a note of how it's connected when you remove the old one and do the same in reverse to connect the new one.

Keep the bolts if you might ever move house (the reason I've done this so many times!).

2catjanet · 29/05/2020 13:29

Can you tell me the name of the supplier you used, need a new fridge/freezer, but need it delivered and old old removed, am single and in a flat.

Pipandmum · 29/05/2020 13:50

I'm waiting too for a dishwasher to be installed. Its integrated and last time they had a hell of a time getting it out of the slot. Plus I want them to take the old one away.
They will only deliver to outside your house so that's something to consider especially if going upstairs.
