Has anyone ever paid for their house to have a deep clean please? What do they actually do or do you just tell them what you want to be done? Thanks

Ooh I’m interested in this. Was wondering if I booked an end of tenancy type clean (even though it’s my own house) if that would be a similar thing

SillyMoomin · 09/05/2020 09:21

Why do I always manage to kill threads Grin

Sarahwhizz · 09/05/2020 10:08

I'd be interested to know too. Although I'm a little concerned about letting people into the house at the moment, so once to leave until lockdown is over.

Givemeabreakpls · 09/05/2020 10:09

I was planning the same! I’m keeping it clean and tidy but I just don’t have time or energy to clean really thoroughly.

nahnonever · 09/05/2020 10:09

@SillyMoomin that made me laugh so much

We did this about a year ago. It cost something like £250 and we had a whole team of people in for a few hours.

We liked it and we liked them so we then carried on having them weekly thereafter just for a normal clean.

Pipandmum · 09/05/2020 10:17

Yes I've had one done when I sold a house. I had four kids and cats and dogs living there, I was recently widowed and after having to pack it all up I couldn't cope with cleaning it to the standard I'd want my new home to be. A team of three cleaners came and spent the day (big house) doing everything - you could have eaten off any surface in the end. The house was empty though which probably made it a lot easier.
I didnt tell them what to do they just did it. I'd love it now but my problem is too much stuff - I'd have to sort all that out first.

Impiz · 09/05/2020 10:25

I was very surprised to find out that what I thought would be included in a regular clean was only part of a deep clean.

For example, we got some cleaners in for a general clean and they cleaned the shower cubicle but left the shower head which had loads of limescale on. Then then vacced the lounge but then didn’t vac under the coffee table. There was some other things too but I can’t remember them.

They were all things that I would have done anyway as part of normal cleaning of my house so getting the cleaners in didn’t really help me as I still had to clean up after them!

So to me, a “deep clean” is a bit of a marketing con. It’s what a normal good clean should be.

Kindlingwood · 09/05/2020 10:28

How much do these things typically cost (o know it depends on location etc). But we have a 4 bed victorian trrrace house (to give. A vague idea of size) very up north.

Been thinking about getting it done to.

Kindlingwood · 09/05/2020 10:29

Argh too. Stupid iPad not registering my typing.

TimeWastingButFun · 09/05/2020 10:43

I did this when I was heavily pregnant and my husband was working a lot, so we decided to book a company in for a thorough deep clean - tbh though they didn't clean anything I wouldn't have as a normal clean (eg they didn't wash down walls which I thought they would, and didn't clean the inside of the windows). So we didn't do it again.

Impiz · 09/05/2020 10:44

Ah yes that was it, they didn’t clean the inside of the windows or the frames!

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 10/05/2020 11:34

Wash down walls? Am I supposed to be washing walls?

Not being a cheeky arse I promise, is this something else I’m supposed to be, and not, doing?

Nanalisa60 · 10/05/2020 13:10

Have a deep clean is a great idea but remember it’s much easier to clean a house that’s not full of stuff, so have a really good declutter of your house get all the washing and ironing done and sort out you draws and wardrobes. Then they can come in and do a deep clean from top to bottom and make it all shinny and clean.

NamedyChangedy · 10/05/2020 16:19

I've had these before but only ever on empty houses, either before moving in or after moving out.

I don't know of a service that would deep clean a house full of stuff and furniture as it would take a very long time, and they'd have the hassle & liability of rummaging through and moving all your belongings. You might be able to find a housekeeper that would do this in a series of visits?

Fantasisa · 10/05/2020 16:25

I think there will definitely be a market for a deep clean after lockdown ends. I'm cleaning more than ever but because we are all at home it is getting grubby again quickly.

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 10/05/2020 16:37

We had a deep clean last year, most of our local domestic cleaning firms do them (sole cleaners tend not to).
Cleaner came for a visit beforehand to look at the size of the house and generate a quote. We negotiated exactly what we did and didn't want included until we got a balance of price / work to be done. We added a few extras like the windows and oven.
Then a team of 4 came on the day and did everything. We did a lot of decluttering and tidying beforehand so that the cleaners could focus on cleaning not shifting our crap out of the way.

Stinkyjellycat · 10/05/2020 16:37

I paid £80 For a while house clean some time ago. It was for a larger than average 3 bed and took about 7hours. Worth every penny!!

midsomermurderess · 11/05/2020 22:09

I did and was a bit underwhelmed. I wanted the full thing, skirting boards, doors, door knobs, tiles cleaned, cornices dusted, windows cleaned so far as possible. The oven and fridge were new so they were ok to leave. It was all just so, so and some people didn't even notice it had been done. I guess the firm I went for weren't that good and I'd not use them again.

BackforGood · 11/05/2020 23:08

It is pretty clear from this, ad every other cleaning thread though, that we all have a different idea of what cleaning is to be done daily, 2x a week, once a week, monthly, annually, or "I didn't know that was even a thing".

If you wanted someone to do some building work on your house, you'd get a quote for the specific work you wanted doing, not for "doing some building work on my house". Ditto car. Ditto garden. Quite frankly, ditto a new hairdo.

Surely the thing to do, if you fancy a 'one off clean' or a 'much bigger than normal weekly clean' , then you talk about what it would involve, with the cleaner, or the cleaning company you are thinking of using.
Even phrases like 'moving furniture' can be pretty unclear. I have furniture in my house I can move quite easily, on my own, and do in a normal clean, but I have other furniture that would take two people to move, and they would have to be people without any previous back strains.
You need to decide what it is you want, and then get firms or cleaners to quote you for that job.
or
Ask a firm advertising a 'deep clean' exactly - in their description - that involves.

FizzyPink · 11/05/2020 23:14

I hired a guy from TaskRabbit a few weeks ago when I needed my flat very deeply cleaned to get it ready to rent out. The guy was amazing and brought all his own cleaning materials, I just had to provide hoover and mop. I think he was slightly more expensive than some others on there but he had loads of brilliant reviews so I felt he was a good choice. I can recommend him if anyone is in North London

Iseethesilverlining · 11/05/2020 23:17

I have a deep clean twice a year, approx £250 for 12 man hours for 4 bed 4 bath house. I am very specific in what I want done - including inside kitchen cupboards, inside windows etc and that I want it done very thoroughly. I have always been very pleased. Have used a company called Fantastic Services recently who have been v good; it is one of their specialities (they don’t cover my area for regular cleans only for deep cleans). Separately I have had ovenu in to do my range cooker, which was also good value for money.

FrankWelker · 12/05/2020 05:55

Turnedoutoes could you message me his details please. Thanks

We've had various weekly cleaners over the years and a few deep cleans. Deep cleans typically involve things like cleaning the oven with heavy cleaning products. In my experience you can absolutely tell them your priority areas and that is where they will start. Absolutely go on a recommendation though as we've had some excellent cleaners in the past and some awful ones where I'v really begrudged handing over the money.
