ME/CFS and struggling with housework

My DH and I both have ME/CFS and we are struggling without my lovely cleaner. We have automated as much as we can (roomba, etc) and the kids are good at looking after their rooms and do their own laundry. DH pulls his weight around the house but he is also wfh and obviously his job comes first.

This week has been particularly bad as I had about four days totally out of action. What I WANT to do is have a massive blitz and just clean for a few hours to get on top of things but I have to be careful not to over do it. I just need to gently get going and do jobs for a little while and then do a few more tomorrow.

We've been trying to clean high-touch surfaces daily even tho hardly anything comes into the house. We chuck all envelopes and packaging from post immediately and then wash our hands. We wipe shopping when it comes in.

I can't even put my finger on what I think has slipped. If you asked me to make a list I would struggle to know what it is that can't wait another couple of days. I guess experience tells me that it all always gets worse, that's all. I really want my cleaner to come in for a few hours but I don't know if that is a good idea.

I hoovered our bedroom. I will mop the kitchen floor later, after lunch. Our bathroom tomorrow.

I’m with you. I have fibromyalgia and i am so utterly tired at the moment. We’ve been decluttering today. Managed the board games, towels and the youngest child’s toys.

I caved. I messaged her and she is happy to come back as long as we all stay out of each other's way. None of us have symptoms. She will wear mask and gloves, and obviously will be cleaning, and I'll keep windows open for fresh air to circulate. Might not need her back for a few weeks. We have been so extremely low risk (as in adhering stringently to all lockdown guidelines) that this feels okay.

If I could afford a cleaner I definitely would! I think you did the right thing as long as you are both happy :)

I have CFS/ME too. Can't afford a cleaner and my bf does a poor job. Bless him for trying though. I blitzed my bathroom... full floor wash, dusting, de clutter and bathroom mats in the washer. I was so tired and run down afterwards. I do feel virtuous and proud of how clean it is now. It's hard to strike a balance.
