Does your DH help you with the housework?

Mine does if i ask him for help, he will hoover up or wash up (they have to be rewashed though later by me!).
Whereas my dad does NO housework and my mum was bemused to find that my DH helps, she said But he works and i said well so do i,cooking cleaning washing its only fair at the weekend for him to help a bit.

no. next question?

magnolia74 · 17/09/2007 11:05

Dh cooks quite a bit, always cleans the 2 toilets, often cleans the sinks and the kitchen especially the cooker. Doesn't hoover much but only cos I moan and then re do it
I do the ironing but again it's because I am fussy.

pyjamaqueen · 17/09/2007 11:06

About once a month he loads the dishwasher or piles up all the piles of clutter in a place where I can't find them.

Then he wants LOTS of recognition for being so helpful.

GooseyLoosey · 17/09/2007 11:06

He will if asked but has a nearly pathological inability to determine what needs doing on his own. Left to his own devices he would never change sheets or wash floors, partly out of laziness but mostly because it would never occur to him that these things need doing. It often drives me demented!

Dh also does the weekly shopping, I haven't had to go to Tesco's or Sainsbury's in over 2 years

magnolia74 · 17/09/2007 11:07

Oh and dh works while I take care of 5 kids which is work in itself!

rantinghousewife · 17/09/2007 11:08

My dh does some ironing, cooks Sunday dinner and hoovers the upstairs and he'll help out with anything. I was brought up in a family where my dad helped with the housework, he was brought up by distant family and had to earn his keep, so it wouldn't occur to him not to.
As a child I was always shocked by my friends dads who didn't do any of these things.

Does most of the cooking
All the DIY
Garden
General tidying

Never does the bathroom
Never empties the bloody dishwasher!
Never does any aspect of laundry

Pretty Even Stevens really

magnolia74 · 17/09/2007 11:09

Lol, cod me too. Its not helping me its helping him to have a wife at home thats bearable

seeker · 17/09/2007 11:10

Mine doesn't do much house work, but he does shop and cook. We agreed when we decided that I would be a SAHm that he wouldn't do housework - that's part of my contribution to the family. He spends a lot of time with the dcs when he's not at work - I would much rather he did that than hoover!

magnolia74 · 17/09/2007 11:10

No, I admit my dh's job is way harder than looking after the kids but that doesn't stop him doing things at home

bossykate · 17/09/2007 11:10

no he doesn't "help". he has his share of things to do and generally does a piss poor job of them.

bossykate · 17/09/2007 11:11

we both work f/t OTH.

Seeker, me too. In fact I often chuck ds1 at him so I can go do ironing in peace

magnolia74 · 17/09/2007 11:12

Oh god, would let dh fold washin. He does hang it on the line bless but not very well!

Budababe · 17/09/2007 11:12

Mine cooks a lot - more than me. Shops. Loads and unloads dishwasher. Will hang washing out if notices it in machine.

wheelsonthebus · 17/09/2007 11:14

mine has jobs - empty washing machine/put out rubbish/ etc. Anything that he loathes doing (the garden), i say he will have to get someone in (and he does)

mumblechum · 17/09/2007 11:16

Mine does stuff like lighting the fires, bringing the logs in and sometimes cooks. He's mad on gardening though, spent all weeking digging and mowing so he does his fair share (also works about 70 hours a week, bless his cotton socks)
