Social distancing around the Maypole: Fledglings fly into Flylady thread May 2020.

Lisette1940 · 30/04/2020 15:16

Welcome to the May Flylady thread Fledglings! We are finally coming to the end of Spring and, erm, what a Spring it has been. Keep safe everyone and a special shoutout to Fledglings who are in the frontline of the response to Covid 19.
Lane has been superlative with the keep calm corner and has had a truly magnificent engagement with fledglings all through April – well done Lane!!! I have totally abandoned my routines (and my clean eating) and have been flying perilously close to the ground but am ready for take off again. But we operate a no fledgling left behind policy and indeed Flylady herself stresses that you are never behind in the system – no need to deep clean the house first, just jump right in.
All are welcome here from longtimers to newbie and those lurking – we all follow this zone-based Flylady cleaning system:
There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
MAY
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – Sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sun 31)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look here but be aware that lots of emails arrive if you sign up.

Flylady has an introductory scheme called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc here.

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of May is moving – whether that’s your daily get out of the house during lockdown or in house movement. – moving is not my strongest point apart from pottering around the house…
We also have a naughty corner as a restful break out space and a Keep Calm Corner (KCC). I suspect I’ll be better at the naughty corner rather than the latter but I’ll do my best! Not sure I can muster the memes but I’ll do my best to keep spirits up.
So welcome to the new thread (I hope I haven’t left anyone out): Lane, SC, zoo, Bower, KTCluck, Willow/Megiddo, foxes, That, averytiredMom, fluffliest, ED, Strawberry, Chic, Hazel, Happiness, Cineraria, We3, stressy, and give.

And breathe!

Oh my gosh sc poor pup :(

Morning all, feeling slightly more awake today. Outside time helped yesterday.

Smartcasual · 21/05/2020 10:31

Forgot about your shoulder Zoo please go very gently and take it steady! And for the future...when it's better ...can recommend Lucy Wyndham-Read's arm and shoulder exercises on You Tube which take minutes very day...even for old crumper like me.Grin. Mind you, you probably already get loads of exercise cleaning!

Smartcasual · 21/05/2020 10:40

I was just going to say "hope you can get more space today" Lane! Smile.

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/05/2020 11:28

I am flinging coffee and a fruit platter into the naughty corner. Meditation area set up with comfy mats.

KCC question Favourite memory with a grandparent?. For me it is making Eve's pudding with my gran and spreading the mixture over rhubarb or apples.

Oh zoo you can't go around with numb arms, you poor thing. Meggido I'm no good above a certain temperature either - I actually don't like summer. SC horrific that anyone would treat a dog like that. Our hair clippers have arrived and I have to say I'm nervous about using it not using it on myself!

I did my second run. Ds reports that I'm coming along nicely. I ran for a bit longer today. Did all my stretches too. I hope I can keep it up.

Hmm probably my Nan teaching me how to make jam tarts. And she was from Cornwall so we made some into pasty shapes instead :o

My counselling skills materials arrived. Yay!!! That’s cheered me up a bit.

Also feel nicer after a little walk in the park. I really enjoyed sitting there and drawing yesterday, so I was scoping out potential other bits to draw, and I’m going to do a “views of ... park” project as something to make me get out of the house and have time to myself.

Bowerbird5 · 21/05/2020 13:21

Another quick visit or DH will think I am skiving.

Warning TMI
DCat ate all meals yesterday and did a normal sausage poo. Yeah!

Thanks Little-miss anSC as it is not actually my cat and DD stuck in NZ I am hoping she will live long enough for DD to be back. They should have been back as They we’re going to a wedding of DDs friend from Uni. Lots of the Uni friends were involved with aspects of the wedding. DD made the invitations. To newbies they all did a BA in art so very creative. DCat had a really good day yesterday. She was out in the garden several times found her way around to different spots when she got too hot and back to the house for food. I made her steps up to the trough then DH moved them to mow the grass.

I have had to abandon the boudoir because the weather is great so am painting the new door. I have painted primer and undercoat on one side last night and today. Waiting for it to dry and looking for a painting.
SC 😁we have lots of similarities I think we would get on well.

I do love this corner of mumsnet. I think we are all like minded, kind and have empathy for each other. Our sections...not so much!🤭

Better get back out to hopefully start more painting. Neighbour says rain tomorrow. Thinking we should clear table in summer house and I could paint them on there. It is a stable door so two parts 😁

didmyhousethismornin · 21/05/2020 15:17

Afternoon all! Will catch up and do personals later.

I cleaned the kitchen before bed last night and felt much better this morning waking up to a good clean kitchen. We have had Bread rolls for lunch and are enjoying the sun. I’ve also managed to clean the whole living room, I’ve hoovered and dusted and tidied up toys (pic included as it hasn’t looked this nice in ages).

I have a wisdom tooth growing through and it’s causing me grief. It’s still growing at the back and there’s a flap of skin that flips up when I eat. I might see if I can get it cut if It doesn’t grow through soon.

To Do:
Tidy the garden
LOL
Change my bedding
Hoover my bedroom floor
Dust bedroom windows and skirting boards

Favourite memory with a grandparent probably my grandad picking me up every other weds from school, I can still picture him in his big coat and smart hat and all my friends adored him so he'd end up chatting to all of them on the way home. We didn't have such a good relationship as I got older but I try to remember those happier times. I think if he hadn't have got dementia we would have become close again once dd was born . He would have loved his great grandchildren ❤️

Flying has been slow going today! I've worked this morning, and then done maths , writing and reading with dd. Went for a walk this afternoon with the kids. Made ice lollies!

Think it's too hot to do too much! Grin

foxessocks · 21/05/2020 15:30

Sorry I got lost in thought about my grandad and forgot everything that everyone has been chatting about, memory like a sieve!

didmyhousethismornin · 21/05/2020 15:38

Favourite memory with my grandparent was probably when my nan came to stay over my house and she fell down the stairs. She wasn’t hurt at all but it was so funny, we both look back on it and laugh.

Fluffiest · 21/05/2020 16:15

didnyhouse that does look wonderfully clean and tidy. Well done!

Favourite memory of grandparents- I love my Granny (her chosen name) and she is still my favourite shopping companion. So many happy memories. Last year my DM, Granny and I all went to a posh tea room and all chose a different cake or tart and then we shared them all between us, like a tapas of sweets.

Ta das:
🍓 work this morning
🍓 church admin
🍓 video team meeting that took forever gave no useful information but nice to see people's faces
🍓 tidied clothes
🍓 washed up
🍓 cleaned counters and table
🍓 weeded

Then DD had a nasty fall in the garden and has collected some grazes on her legs. She's ok but gave herself a big shock and is a bit delicate now. So I'm now sat inside with her snuggled on my lap watching Netflix. Shes moving gingerly so I think shes going to get some big bruises- but thankfully isn't limping so I dont think she sprained anything.

Bowerbird5 · 21/05/2020 19:24

FluffiestOh bless her. Ouch. TLC is best medicine.

Didmy looks lovely. I try to make sure kitchen is clean except when friends come for a meal. I like to devote my time to them and remember a good night next morning.

Door ... two coats of primer / undercoat both sides. Ready for gloss tomorrow. Exciting. I am a sad person.
Might have had a little too much red wine.

JigoloHarMegiddo · 21/05/2020 19:49

No such thing as too much red wine, Bower (as long as you're not up early the following day!).

School in the garden worked well for DS3 and we have started building his chimera for art. The humanities has fallen by the wayside until tomorrow!

♥️ Got the dog a haircut
🧡 Gave DS3 a haircut!
💛 White wash done and on the line💚 Whole house hoovered
💙 Last 2 days washing put away
💜 Sorted some family photos from 1910-1940 on Google photos so family members can see them
🖤 Sossij inna bun for tea
♥️ DW rotated again
🧡 Counselling session by phone - useful, but dealing with some ugly things, so have felt a bit off since
💛 Noted my lovely Nanna's 110th birthday today
💚 Shared a bottle of Tesco fizz with DH.

Now about to bring washing in a d hand it out again, poke DS3 towards Asterix and bed, then get in the bath.

mornin, lovely living room.

Favourite grandparental memory? I used to bake scones with my Nanna when I was the only grandchild (until I was 6), it was lovely. There wasn't so much time after that.

On the other side, I have one memory of my Granny (she died when I was 2). I remember her tucking me into her and Grandpa's bed for a lunchtime nap, and then my Dad and Grandpa coming home from somewhere (possibly the pub? This was 1975, after all!) and ringing the doorbell and her giving them what for for waking me up!

Lisette1940 · 21/05/2020 21:22

That looks like a very tidy house didmy. I've just done a quick run around before bedtime and there is only s small gasket of ironing. Need to tidy the fridge and I'm done.

🍐printed, filled in and photographed form for student support for my counselling skills course, emailed it back
🍓joined the others on their walk briefly so I got some exercise
🍊looked into swimming aids that may help prevent hand pain

Bowerbird5 · 21/05/2020 23:33

Yes I have quite enjoyed it Lisette

Well after a lovely day I am back feeling anxious. I had a couple of mum’s at school suffering from anxiety and I never realised it could make you feel this ill. I feel physically sick. Didn’t have any tea after we finished the wine and ate Doritos and dips and olives in the garden. DH and I had a relaxing time then he came in and called me to ask what to give the DCat. I picked her up to give her the medicine she has before her food and she was grumpy and yowled. I put her down and put it on her food next thing DH is saying what is the matter with her. She is limping. I hadn’t seen her walk when I picked her up so don’t know whether it had happened while we were outside. She was asleep on the sofa. So whether she missed the stool getting down or whether as DH accused I put her down wrong. Positive I didn’t. I put her down gently and fed her. He then wondered if she had fallen off the sofa.I wonder if she jarred herself getting down as she is always really careful and puts her paw down until she feels the stool. If she can’t she goes back and moves along and tries again. She had some painkiller for her eye due so I gave her that. I felt all around and don’t think she has broken anything but it is tender. She has been on the sofa and now on DHs knee. She keeps stretching and moving it. Sorry. I just know if we take her tomorrow what the vet will say. Zoo I don’t know how you cope with three ( is it?) cats. Sorry but it feels better to get it off my chest.

A few weeks ago I felt like my old self now I just feel really great or really distressed. It started when they decided to talk about sending the kids back to school. The unions are sending info out all the time.

Memories.
My nana took me to see My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music at the cinema. Mum gave me some money to get nanny some chocolates and we bought a small box of Milk Tray and ate them during the film. Every now and then I see some and it reminds me. Nana had lots and lots of grandchildren but she made special time for me on my own. She lived with my aunty and her large family. I loved her dearly she was a sweet and kind lady and I don’t remember her ever complaining.

My grandmother was different altogether we lived with her for about a year and she started to teach me the piano when I was five and was delighted that I was learning French at school. My mother sent me to the Catholic school nearby and gran wasn’t pleased ( Church of Scotland) but then when she found I was being taught in French she was delighted. Mum said she used to speak to me when I came home.
I can remember sitting at the piano and I loved the picture above it of hills and heather. I have it now. It is needlepoint and I think my grandmother did it. I moved to Windsor after a year. I forgot my French and always wanted to learn it but it was always against art in the options. I didn’t get to learn the piano either because we didn’t have a piano. My grandmother had been a concert pianist as a young girl she went to London to study which was probably quite unusual those days as she was from a small village on Loch Ness. Later on she lived in Myanmar and she also travelled around the world.
I never met either of my grandfathers as they had both died.

Bowerbird5 · 21/05/2020 23:48

Oops bit long again.

Lisette I like painting as in art. I haven’t done much in the house until lockdown when I have painted a bit of the kitchen between the units, the front door( vanished), the new shelves, the sitting room, the shed door and now the new kitchen door. I need to do the bathroom too. I am quite enjoying it. Do you like the radio on while you paint?

Ooh that reminds me on Radio 4 today was an author who has asked other writers to write a children’s story during lockdown. It is a podcast I think. She read one of the rhyming stories which was very funny and sure to make children laugh. That was the idea behind it.

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 22/05/2020 08:25

Morning all

I like painting as in decorating but it is tricky to do with little ones around!

didmy your house looked lovely and tidy! I am curious how long it lasted!

Obvs dd1 not 2 shopping for me.daft phone!!

I've not got a childhood favourite grandparent memory.both grandads passed away before I was born, and dad's mum when I was 9,she lived a long way away and I only saw her once or twice when very young and don't remember her.my mum's mum was a Victorian girls should be seen not heard type.i envied my boy cousin for running wild and free laughing whilst I had sit still and quiet with a doll it colouring book..her spinsters sisters lived over the road and I remember one of them spoiling me,walking me to local newsagent and letting me choose an ice cream.was in tubs and they put two big scoops in a cone.old English toffee and tutti frutti still make me think fondly of her.sometimes if ice cream man came I got a mini milk!we rarely had ice cream at home do it was such a special treat.she was very very kind and patient and would've made a great mum had she found "mister right"
