Yes i know i should decide for myself...but can't. I have had my rug for nearly three years now, it lies in between my two sofas in the living room on laminate flooring. It cost £199 and i really liked it...but it looks horrible now. I have tried to steam clean it, clean it by hand with carpet power cleaner stuff, also tried to bring up the pile by using the nozzles on the hoover which took ages. I also think it smells, in fact i am sure it does, what do i do??
Stupid question i know, but i don't like to just throw it away it seems such a waste. Should i just admit defeat and get rid of it and save for a new one or put up with it??
Boring post sorry

Nbg · 15/09/2007 21:12

Take it to the dry cleaners.

WideWebWitch · 15/09/2007 21:13

Freecylce it

DumbledoresGirl · 15/09/2007 21:13

Sensible answer here: have you tried finding out if your local dry cleaners could clean it for you?

newlifenewname · 15/09/2007 21:13

mine has wee on it but I'm keeping it

bookthief · 15/09/2007 21:14

Get someone in to clean it (and any other carpets/upholstery). Have you seen the sort of stuff they deal with on How Clean Is Your House? Would be a doddle.

I keep meaning to do this with my sofas but I'm too ashamed.. (yet not ashamed enough not to have friends/family round to sit on said sofas. Interesting.)

blossomsmine · 15/09/2007 23:46

It is abit embarrassing isn't it bookthief?!! The drycleaners don't do rugs, then again that was just the local one could try a bigger one in our nearest town.
What about if i hired a carpet cleaner, anyone used one from a hire shop, do they work ok??

Red rug.....????

you could hire a carpet cleaner from somewhere like homebase - do you have other carpets you could do as well?

PrettyCandles · 21/09/2007 06:14

My parents had someone come into their house to steamclean carpets and sofa. They said the price difference between paying someone to do it and hiring the machine themselves was trivial, especially compared to the effort involved, and the man did the whole house in a few hours.

looshkin · 21/09/2007 20:48

We have had our carpets and rugs done by a cleaning company - as others have said difference in price (between them and doing it yourself) is small and well worth it - I was quite shocked at how dirty my carpets were - I had to hang my head in shame .

blossomsmine · 22/09/2007 00:04

The problem is i only have one carpet in the house now, and my sofas are leather so would be getting a cleaner in for just the rug. I have to say the rug is now relagated to the garden shed and will probably be there for ever now! The room smells much nicer now, just doesn't seem as cosy.
