WASHING OUTDOORS?

Batlou · 20/04/2020 23:28

We are soon to move into a house with a small garden.
I've only ever had washing drying on airers inside and am thinking about what best to go for in my new garden.
I don't want a rotary line - it's a tiny garden and I don't want a line to dominate the look
You can get wall-mounted dryers though - could be good?
Or should I just get an extendable line that I can pull out and fix in place for the time that I need to use it. In which case I'll need a prop to stop the laundry weighing it down?
Any thoughts, advice, recommendations gratefully received.
Thanks.

Rotary lines fold down so no need to dominate the garden when you aren't using it.

tishwuw · 20/04/2020 23:34

If the garden is tiny you probably won't get much on a pull out line.

shellysheridan · 20/04/2020 23:45

Our garden is tiny. We have a hook opposite corner to opposite corner and the line fold away when not being used. Doesn't dominate too much

mencken · 21/04/2020 10:41

Brabantia rotary line. Fold down when not in use, or take out totally if you can be bothered and have somewhere to keep it; you get a red cap to cover the hole so you can find it again.

Yep, another voice saying rotary line. Well, no, it's voice saying whirlygig because that's a better name for them Wink

Thank you so much for your replies.
I'll have a think about a rotary whirligig but I haven't really got anywhere to store it.

Thanks for your thoughts xx

When they fold down you can just prop them in the corner. By the fence or house. You can buy covers for them if you want to keep them down. You'll definitely get more washing on a whirligig!

Retractable washing line? That's what I have. My gardens an ok size but with kids garden toys and things I need it out the road.

TiggeryBear · 21/04/2020 11:37

I just stand my indoor airers outside. I peg everything on to it if I do though.

Rebelwithallthecause · 21/04/2020 11:38

I have a pull line that takes up no space and in my Victorian terrace can pull it across 3 or 4 times between the fences on either side to either gate one load or two on at a time

Far better and less intrusive than a rotary

MrSheenandMe · 21/04/2020 11:40

Or you can just put your airers outside!

bellinisurge · 21/04/2020 11:48

Not sure why the caps, op. We only have a tiny garden. Clothes dry better and are disinfected by sunlight. You work around it. In this weather it's barely out that long anyway. Or you can leave it overnight and get it darked on Wink(MN injoke)

ChicChicChicChiclana · 21/04/2020 11:51

I put my indoor airer outside and use pegs on a breezy day. Much quicker and easier to get the washing in if it starts raining - you don't have to re-hang it all.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 21/04/2020 11:56

I have a rotary line but I only put it out when I need to use. The rest of the time it is in the corner of the shed. If you don’t have a shed you can get a cover for it and put it in a corner indoors or a corner of the garden.

Take a look at the Brabantia Wall Fix. I love mine and it folds away against the wall very neatly.

Whirligig!! AND a long line you get more on the whirly gig, but there's nothing like sheets flapping away on a hoisted long line 😊☀️

dementedpixie · 23/04/2020 12:30

My whirly stays outdoors all the time. If it's not getting used it gets folded but then just stays where it is

Weatherwax · 23/04/2020 12:50

Retractable wall line with a prop. I zig zag mine across my garden rather than just straight up and get loads on!

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 23/04/2020 14:32

How tiny? We've just moved and ours is pretty wee but we have a retractable going diagonally and I can get a couple of washes on it. I don't like whirlies and have never had one - I don't think they dry anything like a single line.

I got this. Because that's the one my neighbour has!! Keeping up with the Joness in the new house! And it does look a bit funky. And a bit like something that belongs to an alien! I'm very happy with it. I'd always poo pood retractables before but I'm a convert. I also got a prop. Perfect.

BarkandCheese · 23/04/2020 14:38

I use my airer outdoors, the patio is too small for a rotary or a line and the lawn slopes too much. It makes a nice bit of shade for the dog to nap in as well.
