Need a new vacuum...

My £450 Dyson V10 Cyclone has packed in. Not even three years old. I’ve had two replacement machines, endless new filters and two engineer visits. I’ve had enough of being without a Hoover for days on end. Most of my three bed house is carpets and I have a dog and baby so hoover almost daily. Would prefer cordless but open to upright cleaner as long as not too heavy. Any suggestions?

I know you’re probably a bit against Dyson right now but we bought the v11 absolute cordless about 6 months ago. It was an upgrade from a v6/v7 (one of their first cordless) and it is fab!! Although I can’t comment on pet hair it does an awesome job of cleaning up after our toddler and picking up my very long hair

Holothane · 05/04/2020 18:50

This won’t suit you but we have a tiny flat both disabled but love our new Gtech pro, it’s cordless and with bags, no messy filters. So light to use, I’m arthritic easy to store and things click on very easily.

Shark cordless is worth looking at .
I have a sebo which is 10 years old and I use it every day. But you may find it heavy.

dudsville · 07/04/2020 06:54

I've had Dysons for 10 years and we've decided we will step away from the brand after our last engineer visit. They do break a lot. Their filters and multiple plastic parts just increase the liklihood of this in that there's note tio go wrong.

We have a vacuum on each floor to save my back carrying it around. We replaced one recently with a miele. It's not an upright but that in itself makes it handy for various chores, and it means fewer plastic parts. I also purposely chose one that uses bags as i hate emptying the Dyson, so gross. The little miele is great and i think I'll get a miele upright that uses bags next. After i save up a gamillion pounds!

Sorry but Henry every time. Also panic bought an amazing little ie mini 18v hand held Black and Decker that has a hose. It runs for about 20 mins and is quite loud but is lovely for a quick clean up.

Charlierocks111 · 11/04/2020 10:49

What Shark model does anyone recommend? They seem to be highly rated

Sebo x

I've just bought the Shark Duo-Clean Liftaway - cordless. Was worried about running time, so bought an extra battery. Easily does our our big old house with one battery, and the second one is ready for use next time.

It's brilliant! Light, easy to manoeuvre, pulls you along on carpets. 😁 motorised attachment is great on stairs and car interior.
I was just going to use it for downstairs, in the kitchen and other wood floors, and keep the old Dyson for upstairs, but I find I'm
just using it everywhere. I love it!

TDL2016 · 11/04/2020 17:04

Miele CX1 bagless cat and dog. It’s been amazing for my house.

OldSpeclkledHen · 12/04/2020 00:11

Just gone back to a Henry after Dyson (which I hated)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/04/2020 11:01

Shark Rocket - corded .
It does have a long enough cord that I can plug it in downstairs and do the halll, landing and stairs .

But - it has a small collection cannister .
It stops picking up ( feels like it's gliding rather than pulling on the carpet) when the beater barrel gets wrapped with DD hair .
No matter how long I keep the vacuum on after I've finished , usually I hold it over a bin for any bits to drop, it will still deposit a lump of grit or cat litter on the carpet Hmm

I bought the stair attatchment (one for pet fur) which helps .

It is light weight though.

My parents have a G-Tech , it is really good Lightweight, cordless . Really picks up well .

LazyDoll · 15/04/2020 09:51

Watching with interest. The hose of my Miele upright has broken in several places and I need to replace vac as new part is £100 and I find it sooooo heavy on stairs. Reluctant to spend a fortune but like to spend as little time doing housework as feasibly possible so it MUST be time/effort effective....

CambsAlways · 17/04/2020 19:34

Shark every time love mine

Ifonlyiweretaller · 18/04/2020 16:22

A very timely thread for me. My Dyson is on its last legs - and what a faff it is to take apart and clean! So I'm considering a Shark too as I've read good things about them. But there is too much choice! Can I ask @CambsAlways - which model do you have and why you love it?

goldpendant · 18/04/2020 16:27

Must be something in the water!! My v7 has just packed up (is there a fix at all for power outage issues?). I love the ease of it, so will either upgrade (we've got a pet now too), or look at Shark. We have 5 lots of stairs in this house so I'm loathe to go back to anything corded... is the shark lift away cordless for stairs?

CambsAlways · 18/04/2020 19:17

Hi ifonly, I have the shark lift away I bought from Argos it’s the burgrundy and grey one, I told three friends they also have it, you will be amazed I’ve had 4 dysons in the past and none have touched the shark

CambsAlways · 18/04/2020 19:21

Reason I love it is , you think your carpets are clean , well you should try a shark I’ve always hoovered quite a lot but all the others you realise have left dirt behind in carpets as when you go over with the shark the power is amazing and I got a cyclinder full of dust in one room after thinking it was clean, I love the headlights everything about it, mines the duo clean one lift away if you look in Argos book you will see it or I expect online

Bloomburger · 18/04/2020 20:38

Sebo Felix is amazing, hospital grade filters and not too heavy.

I chucked my Dyson after hoovering straight afterwards with the Sebo and seeing the amount of dust that came up.

Allyfromtheblock · 25/04/2020 22:49

Very happy with Miele Cat and dog

Twinmama32 · 28/04/2020 16:24

Ooh I bought this shark 2 weeks ago and it’s brilliant

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HBZ4N28/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_POeQEbXB0ZQ6C?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Didn’t think it could be better than my dyson and I was VERY wrong, I have a dog, a cat and two kids and it annihilates all the dirt they create!

userxx · 29/04/2020 08:31

@Twinmama32 I've been looking at that. Is it heavy to carry upstairs? Is the suction powerful? I've got a hetty hoover at the moment but it's not doing my back much good.

Twinmama32 · 29/04/2020 08:39

userxx it’s not particularly heavy, plus you can lift away the main part to hoover the stairs and that but is really light. I’d say it’s less awkward than a Henry as mine spent 90% of its time lying on its side,Grin and it certainly doesn’t clean up as well.

userxx · 29/04/2020 08:50

@Twinmama32 Oh really, so Henry isn't as good? I just thought because it's so powerful nothing else would compare. Yes, I've almost been knocked down the stairs by Henry friggin heavy when he falls from a height! The lift away bit really appeals to me, does it have a brush for skirting boards? Sorry to bombard you!

Twinmama32 · 29/04/2020 09:01

userxx I didn’t love the Henry, mainly kept it for building work rubble and dust but I just found it awkward and rage inducing as it’d constantly roll and get jammed behind things as you were pulling - this could have just been me being useless!!
The shark comes with a long thin tube, a smaller brush/stair tool and an upholstery/carpet pet hair attachment, that’s all I think unless you count the little headlight on the front Presumably to see where you’re cleaning Grin

totallynotchanging · 29/04/2020 09:02

I got a shark liftaway corded recently - model 801, its brilliant so far. I got it direct from Shark, delivery was really fast. I was amazed by how much fluff and dirt it picked up after I'd gone over first with my v old Dyson.
