My mum has given me a pearl & gold necklace & earrings to wear at my wedding - she wore them at hers 10 years ago and they need a good clean,

how do I do this?

Thanks x

Pearls- Never wash in water. Oils from the skin help to maintain their gleam, so wear them as much as possible ( but not while appyling make-up, scent or hair spray) Rub with a chamois leather from time to time.

Thanks for that

What about the gold? can irub something on that?

I cant really wear the pearls as theyre a bit fancy for everyday use!

Can't find anything at the minute for gold. You could drop it in methelated spirit for a maximum of 3 mins if it wasn't set with anything.

is it a pearl-and-gold necklace or are they seperate items?

if the latter, you can wash the gold things in warm water & washing up liquid with an old toothbrush to get in the crevices.

its a perl ncklace with solid gold clasp - so thogether, earrings to match!

maybe i should get them cleaned professionally? Anyone know somewhere that does it?

no, but pearls should be re-strung every now and again anyway as otherwise the strings have a nasty habit of breaking (especially if they haven't been worn for 10years).

I would recommend having them restrung as they will be cleaned at the same time. It's not cheap though, be warned!

oh, just chamois them then

after 10y I should think the string should be ok as it's probably synthetic rather than silk - 1997 is hardly antique
