Have you had your floors sanded and waxed?

How long would you expect it to take? For a whole downstairs of woodblock floor? DH has booked someone for £650 to do two reception rooms, the hall and a smaller room. The man says if we clear the furniture in advance he can do the whole lot in one day. Otherwise it will take two days. He's supposed to sand it all and then put whatever varnish on.

Will he turn up on a horse and wearing a stetson?

I feel I should be checking something about the finish. Any advice?

About 2 yrs ago we paid £1000 for two receptions rooms and a hall to be sanded and sealed. According to the quoatation they sanded the floor with at least three grades of sandpaper, applied one coat of primer seal and two top coats of seal. Our floor was in a pretty poor state with repairs required in several areas. At the same time we had new flooring put down in our recently extended lounge. In all I think it took about 3 or 4 days, so I would be very surprised if someone could do it in one day even with all the furniture cleared.

Have not got any specific information about the seal used, but the quote talks about the seal being waterbased, hardwearing, quick drying and giving a satin appearance - looks alright to me!

Thanks busywheels, that's helpful especially as we've had no info about the seal. The floor's ok I think, it was sanded badly a few years ago (can still see the first grade sanding marks) but it wasn't finished smooth or sealed in anyway, so the man said it wouldn't be that big a job to sand.

I think we need to ask more about the finish. Anyone got any more comments?
