How to get a shiny sink?

My kitchen sink/draining board is stainless steel but it constantly looks dull and also watermarked. I've tried various products to get it shiny but none seem to work. We do live in a hard water area so not sure if that's it. I just want it to gleam!

The trick is in the buffing.
I use a cream cleaner when there’s a builder (cif etc)
And then a stainless steel spray for daily maintenance with either a bit of kitchen roll or a micro fibre cloth

Lots of viakal?

mypoorfurbaby · 10/03/2020 22:24

Baby oil- I use it to clean all my stainless steel

userxx · 11/03/2020 14:49

@mommybear1 Would that work on a stainless steel splashback?

Bert2e · 11/03/2020 14:56

Spray bottle of distilled malt vinegar and then buff off!

mommybear1 · 11/03/2020 15:23

@userxx yes I would think so I use it on taps, towel radiators (bane of my life Hmm) and my built in oven fronts they come up brilliantly.

White vinegar will get the limescale off and will leave the sink shiny after. Be careful if you have natural stone counters though.

Barkeepers friend!! Is the best thing ever.

With a window open for ventilation, a mixture of bleach and washing up liquid and a bit of elbow grease will get rid of all the crud. Then, as a PP said, run Cr, dry and buff with a soft cloth.

Always wipe round to dry after each use.

Thanks! Plenty to keep me busy!

@mommybear1 I shall add it to my ever growing cleaning stash! I will never in my life have anything stainless steal again!

TwoKidsStillStanding · 11/03/2020 18:23

Viakal is great stuff in a hard water area. Use the gel-type stuff for build-up and the spray on a regular basis.

Fanthorpe · 11/03/2020 18:25

You just made me think of my Home Ec teacher who prized a nicely shone sink very highly. We did it with our teatowels. Ah the skills I picked up at school...

Ivysaurus · 11/03/2020 18:34

Can I jump on this sink cleaning bandwagon and ask a q. I have a few paint (emulsion) splashes from cleaning paint brushes in the sink 🙄 any idea how to get rid of them?

Millipedewithherfeetup · 11/03/2020 19:00

**Ivysaurus barkeeoers friend will sort that out no problem and give amazing shine too (buff dry with a t towel )

mommybear1 · 11/03/2020 19:39

@userxx I feel your pain! If ever you are in a rush baby oil works well to being up a nice shine but doesn't actually clean if MIL is popping round I give my a quick swoosh with it Wink

Itstheprinciple · 11/03/2020 20:23

I've gone with the cif for now as that's what I had in. Funnily enough, I'd never thought of using that on the sink before even though I use it on loads of other things! It's definitely looking better but I do need something to treat the limescale build up with a bit more 'oomph' so will be stocking up on products at the weekend.
